I'd agree with you, but I actually like those songs. It took me a long time to get into Relapse and Recovery took longer lol.

He's still a great rapper, and I'm happy he got his life on track, but personally he was so much better on Vicodin, etc. The lyrics are just night and day.

Yeah the lyrics are night and day. At his best during his fucked up phase, he was a "pretty good" rapper. At his worst....he was embarrassing. Now at his best he shits on most rappers, and at his worst he's still better than a lot of rappers today.

I think nostalgia is a big reason why people moan about current Em now.

I was 11 years old when I picked up SSLP and never looked back. Those songs from his first three albums have a special place in my heart but I don't doubt if he released them now, and relapse, recovery, mmlp 2 were his first three, people would hear TES and say he fell off

I have to disagree. The flock of radio lovers will feel that way but real fans know real shit. That feeling you got at 11 from SSLP, the vicarious chill of really enjoying something dark, could not be replicated by Recovery. I'm no Recovery hater, but it doesn't have that dark intangible. The thing is too, people are judging MMLP2 RIGHT NOW, when even Berzerk has only been out 2 months. It takes time for things to settle in and get an authentic opinion, IE Rap God. I don't believe in 1 year everyone will be squirting over it anymore

Time is a big factor when we're talking Eminem. I mean, Relapse is proof of this. :coffee:

All I have to say is this talk of post Relapse Em being his most lyrical is just very suspect. What the fuck do y'all actually listen to that is hip hop besides Em? Y'all comparing him to Big Sean or something?!
