I think I'm one of the few people who thinks LY is sort of overrated. Image

Lose Yourself is objectively, the greatest song Eminem has ever written. End of.

You can have personal tastes but objectively speaking, no song reached the level Lose Yourself did.

That song is considered not just one of Em's best, not just one of hip hop's best, but one of the greatest songs of all time, period.

He has a few "all timers" under his belt. Stan, Sing For The Moment, Till I Collapse. But Lose Yourself had a greater impact than all of those.

Slightly off topic, but I listened to some songs off Recovery y'day, dunno if it was because I was depressed or something, but they sounded really good.
Really good.

"Rabbit Run" is far more superior than "Lose Yourself" ?

 I can hardly find a song period that's far more superior than Lose Yourself... that was some statement right there. Lose Yourself literally took over from scratch & ruled for like year... millions of people who didn't know shit about Hip-Hop & didn't even care about it got crazy about it 'cuz of it.

Lose Yourself best song ever.
Not just hip hop, not even kidding.

That whole period of Em's life gives me goosebumps.
Icon in his prime. I love the Monster video because of that part when he mimicks the move perfectly.

It's a good album.

I also have a personal investment in it because when it dropped, I had pulled a muscle in my leg pretty seriously. So much so that it felt like I pinched a nerve in my spine. I was on bed rest for like 3 weeks, I quite literally couldn't sit or walk -- just lay in bed for the majority of the day.

It was summer too, and while all my friends were out partying and shit, I was stuck inside. All I had to get me through that time was Recovery.

It played a big role in me bouncing back. I would start walking/jogging through pain while listening to songs like Not Afraid and Cinderella Man like, fuck this shit. This is not gonna be the story of my summer.

It helped get me out of that depression and probably sped up my recovery process by a few weeks.

That's probably the biggest example I can think of when talking about how relatable and motivational his music is. It got me out of bed, even though I was in a lot of pain, and made me fight through it. You know, two to three weeks locked up in your room -- it's not even just a physical issue at that point. Your thoughts drive you nuts when you can't leave the house to clear your head or any of that. The album brought my spirits up. He has a way of saying things that just connect with his listeners.

@Vintage
Pretty much, it makes you want to get up and do something, which is why, even though I never really loved it, I understood what it meant to Em.
It was screaming "I'm not afraid" and hoping if you said it loud enough it'll become true, which is probably why it had so much screaming and over the top braggadocio, he was trying to convince himself that he was back almost as much as he was trying to convince us.
It's a fascinating album, waay deeper and more complex than I had earlier thought.

Listening to Recovery again feels like a mixed bag. Like I think it's bad compared to how amazing MMLP 2 is but on its own, Recovery is a really good album. I think once the hype of MMLP 2 dies down and I listen to Em's discography a couple more times I can fairly judge all of his albums.
