Internet: Good or Bad?

Postby yoda you can call me » Apr 24th, '14, 14:27

I was born in the 80's at the birth of technology, when mobile phones where few and far between. everyone communicated in the real. However since the late 90's and the arrival of the internet and mobile phones on a massive scale, the western world has changed radically in such a small space of time. millions of us are addicted to communicating in cyber space. in almost every household, kids and parents are glued to their devices. I think we're losing what it means to be human

Thoughts?

If you look at kids today, most of them are lazy af and have a short attention span. Teenagers as well. Me as well.
I think a lot of kids are exposed to, and have access to, a lot of information tho.
Idk if it's good or bad. I guess moderation is the answer to every 1st world problem ever.

Yeah but they choose to watch cats on skateboards instead, lol

That being said, even I feel myself starting to get addicted to just looking at it for no reason and it's bugging me, lol. I never had 'extravagant' phones so now that this one has ooohh data, I'm already exhibiting signs of obsession.

Yeah man, people go cuckoo now if their phone is not in the vicinity. We've become too reliant on this shit

Charlotte wrote:I fucking hate being somewhere with friends and they're attached to their phones, texting other people or feeling the need to capture everything on facebook.
Just do that shit when you're home, but not when you're out dinner with someone. It really takes away the fun of a lot of things.
Internet sucks, people study way less because of addiction and I'm sure I have an internet addiction as does anyone with a smartphone nowadays

All you see nowadays is people engrossed in their phones, no matter where you go, i had a mate who would pop round but you couldn't have a proper convo with him due to his constant need to check his phone, it's annoying as hell.

Social network sites are the worst though. Facebook is doing more bad than good, With everyone wanting to take pics of every moment, rather than actually living in the moment

The internet is one of the most important things we've invented. It moves us up the ladder in our galaxy, but, we have a long way to go.

I wish I didn't use my phone as much as I do. I charge it twice every day because I'm always on it. 99% of my posts here are from my phone.

Btw I don't really mind people using their phones or taking pictures at parties or when we hang out, it's not like they're on it all night straight or are zoning completely out

I guess in theory, meeting people around the world. The access to so much knowledge, documentaries, music etc and those who share the same interests.

I don't know what vine is and i don't think i want to find out either, ha. I know of instagram and been on Em's a few times but i don't bother with it in general. I used to really be into twitter and got involved with the trends and shit, but it became boring really quickly, i just use it to see what my favourite hiphop artist are doing now..

I actually agree with your original statement. If utilised correctly like Hesky said, the internet can be used for amazing things. This forum and other forums are evidence of that, like minded people the world over can come together and stan over shit, haha. There's a fountain of knowledge at your fingertips if you wish to obtain it..
Social network sites are a disease though, the masses are addicted to this shit.
We need to chill out and moderate our time here like Stanbase said.

Do you guys think there would be more rapists/rape if porn didn't exist?

don't know about that like, porn addiction can lead to the deviant having no choice but to act out there perversions.
In terms of the internet, we'd have to see some stats to see if sex crimes have risen since it's arrival. True Wiz touched on this, about children having so much access to unlimited porn. It's definitly an epidemic and another negative for the internet. But that's where the parents come in.

Internet as a technology :y: And on the whole, the benefits of the information age def. outweighs the bad imo. The increased freedom and a the flattened playing field in terms of who can access what information > *

One can discuss the "misuse" of it. But then it becomes more of a "cultural/people problem” rather than a problem with the technology itself.

Yes well said. We the people are at fault. Our relationship with it is still fresh and it may smooth out over time, who knows. Like Mdemaz said, It is certainly a huge step forward for mankind and what a way to start off the 21st century..
