Doctor Who

Postby Evil Twin » Sep 20th, '14, 17:35

So before the new series/season started with Peter Capaldi, I rewatched the whole show, starting with Christopher Eccleston. Back when the show started back on the BBC, it wasn't really my cup of tea but as I watched and paid attention I became quite interested. David Tennent was classic and Matt Smith was sensational also (even though it took me a while to warm to him. I'm currently enjoying Peter Capaldi as the new Doctor.

Any Doctor Who fans in here?

Hello.

I'm a bit pissed at the moment, I just moved into my uni accommodation and I have no TV or TV licence yet, so I can't watch tonight. You can practically see tears.

It's everywhere - I can't escape from it anyway...

I'd recommend watching it from Christopher Eccleston's season as the 9th Doctor when the show returned in 2005. I haven't bothered watching the season's from the 60's as I have no interest in it. But it's quite good (in my opinion.)

Are you sure it's not on the iPlayer tonight?

It will be, but I said, no licence. So I will have to watch the episode by less than legal means.

Oh! Legality, of course...

Actually, I've checked iPlayer, I can watch it as long as I don't watch it live. In a better mood now.

You didn't know that???

TV licensing themselves say that (probably to make you second-guess yourself about needing one).

No, they don't, sweetheart. They don't say that.

You cannot watch or record "while the programmes are being broadcast".

The law states that you need to be covered by a TV Licence if you watch or record television programmes, on any device, as they're being shown on TV. This includes TVs, computers, mobile phones, games consoles, digital boxes and Blu-ray/DVD/VHS recorders.

You don't need a licence if you don't use any of these devices to watch or record television programmes as they're being shown on TV - for example, if you use your TV only to watch DVDs or play video games, or you only watch ‘catch up’ services like BBC iPlayer or 4oD.

On topic - I think I'll pass on this one for the moment... lol

OK, I may be a bit of an idiot then.

I've decided to go out tonight anyway, so I would've missed it anyway.

Project Free TV tho

And I'm a massive Doctor Who fan. I went to the fan expo Matt Smith/Arthur Darvill panel. Was fucking awesome.

Been a moderate fan since I was a kid watching the first season.

It's a franchise that had some really clever original ideas.

these last few episodes have been really well done tho. While some plot points are a little tedious, I'm noticing an improvement in cinematography from the Smith Era, something I don't think was valued as much in the previous seasons amongst other things.

I'm curious… how many of you have seen anything from before 2005?

I have quite a few DVDs of random stories… Tomb of the Cybermen, Genesis of the Daleks, Pyramids of Mars and The Keeper of Traken are all pretty damn good in my mind.

This season has been pretty dope so far.. I was apprehensive about an older doctor being a new fan and all. But he's been really great so far
