s80 not diverse enough for me, too jazzy. I love jazz but I don't know, something about that album doesn't do it for me.

I think gkmc is much more diverse. Kendrick is a much better and more complete artist on good kid imo, he can be very lyrical, he can rely on his flow, he can make club songs, storytelling songs, ignorant songs, west coast bangers, that typical outkast sound from the South, the, jazzy/soulful song, the rnb/love song,... etc

Theres gotta be a balance and he does a great job of keeping that balance.. I can't say the same for S80...I feel like If you like one song from s80 then you're pretty much guaranteed to like at the very least 80% of the album and vise versa...

they're both very different though, its like comparing SSLP to MMLP.

One is rawer, the other one is more "complete", I expect his next album to be his most accomplished album from a musical standpoint.

I'm pretty sure Thundercat will have production credits on at least 50-60% of the songs

He's already on the ending of "i" & did the drums on King Kunta

edit: just checked one of his most recent interviews...

"He’s done songs with Pharrell and Dr. Dre, but he mentioned his main producers as being past collaborators Sounwave, Rakhi, Tae Beast, and intriguingly, Thundercat"

I think Kendricks best album will be his next. He says he wants to change the world. I loving this funk sound with his songs. Really something new

Singin' "Bagpipes from Baghdad" again
In my dad's drag draggin' a faggot in a Glad bag
Won't be the last time I make a dramatic entrance like that again
You thought I was lyin' when I said I think that I'm crossin' the line again
I've lost my mind, caution oh God I think I've just thought of another fucking line
Forgive me father, for I have sinned
But hip hop has left me brainwashed with a violent streak

There's a new theory on Bx & KTT on why kendrick switched up his voice & his lyrics on that SNL performance so I'm just going to post it lol. Remember when he was mentioning Good kid maad city in his verses years before the release of his album? maybe kdot doing the same thing for that new album

Album titled "the return of Enoch" ?

Kendrick played a demon/angel?

Image

Enoch lived 365 years before he was taken by God, which is small amount of time compared to his offspring Methuselah, who lived to be 969 years old. The text reads that Enoch "walked with God: and he was no more; for God took him" (Gen 5:22–29)

According to the Bible, Enoch and Elijah are the only two people God took to heaven without them dying. Enoch is described as a man who walked with God for 300 years.
Kendrick says the return of Enoch twice announcing that Enoch has returned from heaven back to earth probably to spread the message of God.

Another meaning is that the return of Enoch is a metaphor that Kendrick has returned from heaven to spread the lords message.

The song "i" already has religious imagery lyrically (I done been through a whole lot/trials & tribulations, but I know God) and (Satan wanna put me in a bow tie).

At first it seemed like it was just his way of expressing the struggle between loving yourself and using faith in God as a way to keep your head up/have hope; basically just another lyric.

But after seeing him wear black eye contacts (similar to Tyler, the Creator in the videos for "Yonkers" and "She" in 2011) in the SNL performance of "i", as well as his half done hair (a nod to Method Man) it seems like Kendrick may be playing a demon (his spastic jerks and movements could mean he was portraying a crack fiend as well)

maybe the drug crack is a demon and Kendrick is just personifying it?

It should be noted that Kendrick is wearing the exact same outfit from the "i" video, just like Childish Gambino wore "The Boy" costume during his Because the Internet era and Tyler, the Creator dressed up as "Wolf" on Letterman.

When you look at Kendrick's lyrics, he's still saying uplifting stuff. In the video, he's happier and more composed, wearing a hat and the same outfit. This could be the ANGEL side.

Image

When he performs on SNL, he adds in lyrics during the hook, one including "I put the gun in the back of the head of the police". He also appears in the video like this during the car scene, spitting and yelling while hanging out of a car driven by Ron Isley. This could be the DEMON.

Image

Maybe the ANGEL and DEMON are both sides of one man? And that story of internal conflict will play out throughout the album?
