^Does that mean you can't have that end all encompassing character that can cut diamonds with his dick, while being a master magician, and still sneak around in half a ton of armor?

It's fine either way, but I'm lazy and wouldn't want to start another game over just to get a different experience.

Exactly, you can't become all powerful, because there's no way to become the "best" at everything since you gain points as you level (only). Not even close, especially if you want a good character; meaning you'll sacrifice lots of useful and cool stuff just to concentrate on and develop something you can use to make your character "strong" or "smart".

I played through the game over 5 times (I can't remember if I finished more than 5, but I started more plays). After building the best character, I even collected every book and collectible item, I had all the secret weapons and armor, to summarize: the best available of everything... Still not as invincible as my Oblivion character.

well i would certainly prefer the Fallout stealth over the Oblivion one (for the tactical reasoning, as you said).

i hope things are balanced though. in Oblivion it was plainly obvious that Blade weapons was the way to go (for melee) because all the best weapons were swords. also, in Fallout i didn't like that certain attributes were so much more important than others that all my characters were identical. i.e. i did everything i could to make sure i could kill everybody in VATS because that was the best method for anything. no other build was useful for me.
so basically, i want it so that no matter how you build you character, it will be worth it. a plus side to every build that would make it worth while to build that way.

Yeah, Fallout did lean a lot towards the VATS system, eliminating core mechanics normally necessary in shooters.

Well, as far as I can tell (from the HUGE Skyrim spread in Playstation Magazine), Skyrim improves on every aspect of both games, and is confirmed to be larger in scale (and content) than Oblivion. It actually has more lines of recorded dialog, and different voice actors. More towns, better, larger and more eventful dungeons (like ones that initiate stories), and amazing quest system that will most likely make it hard to finish the main... and best of all, they promise over 300 hours of gameplay if you expect to complete every quest and every dungeon (over 120 dungeons, with the medium sized ones being bigger than some of Oblivions larger ones).

it's definitely showing a lot of promise. and Bethesda hasn't let me down in the past. not like the empty promises that Peter what's-his-butt does with Fable (but being a fan of the first i keep playing them).

about the dungeons, in the E3 videos, Todd Howard said that they were right outside of one of the 150 dungeons while playing. that's pretty damn good. especially since "over x amount" of something typically means one or two more than that.

are you pre-ordering it to get the map?

Yeah, I told the lady at Gamestop (I know them personally rofl) to call me when they can take preorders for the special edition box set, and the hard cover game guide (I don't use the guide, I just have a hardcover game guide library haha).

I'll probably pay for it in full so I won't risk getting it late due to being broke that particular day.

Also, i HATE that they take away more and more armor pieces with every game. we lost some from Daggerfall to Morrowind. and again from Morrowind to Oblivion. now you can only get helmets, gloves, boots, and one big armor piece (made up of shoulders, chest, and pants automatically and are not interchangeable.)

I'm really excited for this.
I hope the loading isn't as dreadful as it was on Oblivion. Sometimes they're pretty quick, sometimes they're really slow and I wanna throw my controller at the screen. :(

i notice that the loading is quicker when you're entering an area you were just in. like loading the city after you walked into a house. but if you walk into a city from the outside world, go into a house, exit, then leave the city then the loading screen for the latter will be long because the game appears to keep only the last visited area in RAM.

I agree that it kind of sucks cosmetically, but it's really just a minor issue. It's like how in Morrowind there were more useless items to collect and sell. They're weeding out the nonsense and making room for new and improved mechanics. There will be more loot and interesting stuff to find/collect, so it's not so bad from a dungeon hunting point of view. Of course, I wonder how this will effect armor stats... After all, enchanting is how I became so powerful.

i can understand wanting to weed out the crap stuff. i understand completely. it's just not as satisfying to say you've collected all 4 pieces of a set as opposed to 8 :sweating:

all in all, you're right it is a minor issue. i'm looking forward to the crafting they said they're putting in. it'll make some of the useless junk useful.
