LTWYL vs The Monster

Postby ladelsofgravy » Oct 28th, '13, 22:52

First of all, I enjoyed The Monster and think it will make a good mainstream single. I thought the understated tone of the song was much better than the "loud noise = emotion" logic of Love the Way You Lie.

So, in terms of the sound itself, I prefer The Monster, but in terms of the lyrics and content, this is where I must give it to LTWYL. I found LTWYL to be a bit grating.

The Monster briefly touched on concepts (like cognitive dissonance, the american dream, and brain disorders) but rarely explored deep into them. LTWYL didn't just say "hey, abusive relationships are bad", but it explored the steps, stages, details, and specifics. Monster did not do this.

With such a provocative title like "The Monster" and the fact that it was preceded by a radio-friendly song that successfully dark subjects. Also, a 5 minute song with relatively short verses is underwhelming.

So, this is where it stands. A profound novel that I find a pain to read versus a comic book that I like.

Still though, The Monster is quite good and it will be in my music collection about a week from now.

Ill have to let TM grow a little more but the chorus and beat almost ruin the song completely for me. I prefer LTWYL atm.

The Monster is far better than LTWYL. I genuinely believe this now. After listening a few times the song really isn't bad. But it'll end up just like LTWYL is, a song I'll listen to every now and then but for the most part am not really gonna fuck with.

The Monster. I do like LTWYL but now that I think about it the hook is really annoying. And the lyrics in The Monster are really good.

I thought one of the main flaws (besides the beat) was the wa oh wa oh part... so I made a version without it, except at the end. http://www.sharebeast.com/vbvpsxg55fuk
I thought this improved it... Give it a listen please, and tell me if you think it changes any of your thoughts on the song.

The beat, hook, delivery and flow of The Monster are so much better. It's without a corny lyric, which is rare for Eminem.

But LTWYL just means so much more.

This just proves my point that Eminem since his hiatus only excels in certain areas but lacks cohesive.

I like the beat better than LTWYL too. I think it's much much better than that bullshit we got on Recovery. CDQ sounds sharp.
