I can see where you're coming from OP, but you have to understand: Em has matured as an artist, Relapse was a jokey album, but this is the emotional type of stuff that Relapse haters cried for.

It may be commerical, BUT name another mainstream album that has songs like this.

Almost Famous, Space Bound, You're Never Over, 25 to Life, Love the Way You Lie, Talkin To Myself, this a very personal album dude, which is what people wanted.

I saw a comment on here that said the only thing that will keep this album from being mentioned alongside the big 3 is nostalgia - I think this is correct, flow wise and lyrically, this is Em at his best, he sounds HUNGRY for the 1st time in years
Same sword they knight you they gon' good night you with
Sh.., Thats' only half if they like you
That ain't even the half what they might do
Don't believe me, ask Michael
See Martin, see Malcolm
You see Biggie, see Pac, see success and its outcome
See Jesus, see Judas; see Caesar, see Brutus
See success is like suicide
Suicide, it's a suicide
If you succeed, prepare to be crucified

I've said it like 3 or 4 times, that I like the album, but I'm just saddened by the fact that the Eminem that became a star is doing things he just wouldve never done before.

Basically, what I'm saying is this : Good bye Old Eminem, you were the greatest artist ever. Welcome New Eminem, you're killing the game right now.

And even songs that I didn't like the content I had to listen a second time because the verses were great, like Seduction, when it first started I was like "What the fuck?" but then he kills it and I had to listen again.

he's right in a way.

When he doesn't change people say he's not showing variety as he's producing the same material over and over again.
But when he does do some different stuff people still hate and say stuff like they want him to go back to his old ways and blah blah.
Fuckin hell he can't win can he? Jeez.

Well, the changes you are pointing out took place years ago, when he started working with Akon, and don't forget about Peep Show.

As others have said the "love" songs for the most part aren't actually love songs and are more about his relationship with Rap and how he's tied to it.

The features, hmm, as RealSickLindley said it was a bold move for him to put Pink, Rhianna and Lil'Wayne on his album, but he obviously likes their work and thinks they suit the song, just because other people like them doesn't really change anything...Rhianna, Pink and Lil'Wayne all sounded great on this album.

Oh and finally comparing this to MMLP, SSLP and TES is pointless, as you said you grew up listening to these albums, they have a nostalgic feel to them, if you keep trying to compare his recent work to them then your just going to leave yourself disappointed. Think of your parents, a lot of them won't like modern music because it's not like what they listened to when they were growing up

Thats my take on it anyway :D

I rather have a discography where every album has a different message and story to be told than a discography with the same shit over and over again.

Yeah, I agree with all of this. But it's just so hard not to have nostalgia. But this is a great album for sure, I think it's better than Encore and Relapse, it's actually a good Encore lol

I agree with some points, like the "sucking up" to new artists. I wasn't the hugest fan when he namedropped near the end of Talkin 2 Myself and it seemed a bit out of place. Also can't say i was a fan of any of the features; wish he'd just done it solo to be honest but meh. Still don't mean i don't like the album a lot.

I did notice how many songs about women are on the album (or at least that allude to it), but i can understand it and it fits; the guy is nearly 40, has no wife and spends almost all his time either in the studio or at home avoiding paparazzi so his libido must be going insane and i think it's interesting to see new ideas from him. An almost 40 year old man still rapping about killing, taking drugs and being anti-establishment would just be stupidly immature and would probably earn much more criticism towards Em than he's getting from the minority for this.

As for you saying the old Eminem didn't make forced club tracks, well he kind of did lol. Shake That? Smack That? I know you might say these were post-Encore but still.

He's said before he won't put an album out unless he develops each time, otherwise he's just repeating himself. I think it's interesting and really i'm quite surprised he managed to put an album out that was actually decent. I didn't think he would have anything to say. Happily, he proved me wrong.

Personally i don't agree with you, but ignore the Stans on here who will go nuts at you cause not everyone has to love the album.

da r star wrote:The Eminem that I use to love, that became my favorite artist is just plain dead and gone. This has to be the MOST COMMERCIAL Eminem album ever, there's no denying it.

It's like, he went against everything I use to love about Eminem. Eminem never made songs for girls/about girls where he "seduces" them. If you don't count the Kim songs, the old Eminem just didn't roll like that. That's exactly what Superman was about, it was a song for girls but truly an anti-girl, a satiric song. There's like 4 songs on this "Seductive, Space Bound, Love the Way YOu lie, So Bad". Especially Space Bound and the Rihanna song, that is just weird to hear Eminem make such songs.

The old Eminem didn't do features with the cool new artists, that's exaclty what he did.

The odl Eminem didn't make forced club songs. WTP? More like WTF??

Eminem was not a suck up, he sucks up to current artist and he sucks up to us the fan.

And the finale : The Proof Song. Seriously, he should never have made a Proof Song, it just sound way to corny, from the Hook to the beat.
.

peace to this post!!!!!!
