Will eminem's next album sell a mil first week?

Postby slimfan94 » May 5th, '12, 04:40

Just wondering what everyone is thinking. This is assuming he has a decently selling single. It doesn't have to go number 1 like Not Afraid, but top 10 like all his other lead singles.

I doubt it. Not even Recovery managed to do that, I think it was around 300k short. The era of massive album sales is over.

Depends on the strength of the singles and how early it leaks. But today with downloading, few artists can do this feat.

If he had released it within a year of recovery's release, he would have made it.But now, i dont think he can.

If it had been reversed and he had released Recovery instead of Relapse in 2009, I'm thinking he possibly could've done it.

If the singles are decent, then there is a possibility.
But I doubt it.

I thought selling a million CDs in a week stopped around 2003 or so? (NOT counting certain blonde pop starlets who sell their entire albums for a dollar just to get to number one and sell a million copies but making no profit at all)
August 22 2013 - from Berlin to Paris, 400€ spent just for Eminem. IT WAS WORTH EVERY SINGLE CENT!

Taylor Swifts album sold over a million in 2010.

And that includes Biggie and Pac, whore

So who the fuck do you think that third and that fourth spot's for?

Taylor Swift is also a country star, regardless of her crossover appeal.

Country fans tend to like a physical copy, and as big as she is, I have no doubt that it played a role in her impressive sales that first week. Kudos to her though, at least she didn't have some bald headed tattoo freak buying all of her albums up to boost her sales. Unless we're counting all of those neo-nazis...

Anyway, no, Eminem will not move 1 million units his first week out with his next album, unless he announces it as his last. Even then, it seems like it might not happen. He will, however, most likely put out the highest selling album of the year when he finally comes out with something.

He might pull it off if he did the whole "Watch The Throne" strategy, preventing a leak until the release date. Maybe. Still, I really doubt it, and that's okay. While it would be nice, we all know that what he doesn't sell in his first week, he makes up for in the way that he has sustainable sales for a ridiculously long amount of time.

In theory, yes, 1 million copies sold in the first week is a possibility. There are a few factors one has to consider, particularly;

(i) The marketing & promotion strategy from Interscope, and how well it plays out. Is the promo extra front-loaded (towards the first week) or not?

(ii) How is the album priced? Are there any special offers? Any special first-week discounts? For example, Lady Gaga, who's album was greatly discounted on Amazon.com, which def had a major impact on its first-week sales.

(iii) The market situation, what quarter (and year) is the album released? Holiday season (4th Q) does increase sales heck of a lot. What is the current situation in hiphop, music or even the world in general?

(iv) How successful the first single is, and whether or not it reaches out to a wider/larger audience, how much airplay it receives etc... Is it well enough targeted to the audience that potentially might buy the album? (the casual consumers).

My own personal opinion is that if Insterscope & retailers really wants it to hit 1 million in the first week, in combination with a good market situation and a successful first single (& assuming the album is of high quality), it probably would pass the million mark. However, I wouldn't bet on all of these factors coming true.
