NextEpisode wrote:In theory, yes, 1 million copies sold in the first week is a possibility. There are a few factors one has to consider, particularly;
(i) The marketing & promotion strategy from Interscope, and how well it plays out. Is the promo extra front-loaded (towards the first week) or not?
(ii) How is the album priced? Are there any special offers? Any special first-week discounts? For example, Lady Gaga, who's album was greatly discounted on Amazon.com, which def had a major impact on its first-week sales.
(iii) The market situation, what quarter (and year) is the album released? Holiday season (4th Q) does increase sales heck of a lot. What is the current situation in hiphop, music or even the world in general?
(iv) How successful the first single is, and whether or not it reaches out to a wider/larger audience, how much airplay it receives etc... Is it well enough targeted to the audience that potentially might buy the album? (the casual consumers).
My own personal opinion is that if Insterscope & retailers really wants it to hit 1 million in the first week, in combination with a good market situation and a successful first single (& assuming the album is of high quality), it probably would pass the million mark. However, I wouldn't bet on all of these factors coming true.
