I've been listening 'The Eminem Show' today (specifically 'Sing for the moment') and songs like 'Mockingbird' and 'When I'm Gone'.. He had amazing emotion and passion in his music in these songs. These are the songs that I used to listen to religiously when I was a teenager and was going through alot of rough times. His emotion, combined with his choice of words and subject matter is what made me a hardcore fan of his...
Today, I don't hear that same emotion or passion. His emotion is beyond forced--to the point of screaming--and his passion is seemingly gone. Sure, he still has 'talent' but that never leaves. He can still form rhymes and put words together, but they are seemingly meaningless in comparison to the music I grew up on. Songs like those mentioned above, along with 'white america', 'stan', 'marshal mathers', 'cleaning out my closet' etc etc.. The list goes on. What happened?
At first it didn't really bother me, since I hadn't listened to Em in years.. This is the first time I've sat down to listen to his older stuff in almost 2 years and it genuinely saddens me that he went from (in my eyes) the greatest mainstream artist to ever make it, to this trash that he's producing today. Sure, he had songs like 'Deja vu' and 'beautiful' but even then, they had passion in their writing but not in his voice..
Even though I've been saying he's fallen off hard, it really just now hit me how hard. He was amazing and now he's... Ehh. I don't even listen to his new songs anymore unless someone recommends it. Even then it doesn't effect me.
