I just thought you were pretending to be like people that say all underground rap sucks because they talk about nonsense they don't know about and you were including IT in that because he's who they always bring up.

I can't stand that shit. Not to mention he's so offbeat it's almost laughable.

Although that seems the general consesus of what the song is about, I always thought it was wayy too obvious.
Personally, I think it's about mainstream hip-hop with 'the box' being the hip hop you hear on MTV etc, with the first verse showing how people hate this rap ("really hates the box") but cant look away. With the second verse showing how because this terrible hip-hop is everywhere he cant get enough of it now and loves it.
Also, I remember reading somewhere, someone saying that the "combination" that is swallowed and forgetten is the aspects of rap that made it great in the first place. That adds to my theory.
As the doctors jot it all down, with they pens and pencils
The same ones that took away his voice
And just left this instrumental, like that
^That's the main reason why I think it is. With the 'doctors' being the A & R's at record labels and because of their influence in the music the lyrics have become relatively pointless ("took away his voice") and that it's just about the beat ("left this instrumental")
Of course I could be looking too much into it but I don't think Lupe would have made it as obvious as the television idea.
