At the moment I consider Old School before the time Hip Hop had a turnover when Pop Rap started chartting more and that was late 90s.

I don't consider Jay-Z old school cause he just started right at the time when for me at least new school started. Nas instead is an old school artist because he released Illmatic from that old school era but obviously he's new school as well. In fact, he's more new school due to the fact that he's released 6 albums or so after and 2 albums before if you get what I mean.

Yeah I know what you mean. I just don't know where to draw the line, so it's a really difficult question for me to answer because most of my favorite artists are right on the line. Nas, Jay, Biggie even came in at the tail tail tail end of the "old school" era I suppose. Shit's tough lol :sweating:

Yeah, I usually base it on the year 96-97 but for how long are we going to base it on that, that's the question.

Both.

Depends on what mood I'm in really.

Like if I feel like party, I love me some new school coming out of the speakers.
If I'm blazing it up, I love listening to some new school.

But I like when rappers mix the two.
Like Atmosphere, they're really good at finding a fine balance between old and new school. :y:

Good fucking point. Will the 'line' shift up a few years? Or will a 'newer' school category be established lol. I don't like a lot of the rap coming out now, I hope it gets better.

cant see it getting any better in the near future.

If 90's is defined as old school then yeah old school, which I'm sure it is. I mean who can say no to an album from new york in the mid/late 90's? That eastcoast shit. :smoking:

Exactly. Even though it was meant to be the West Coast era, I think the NY scene was coming out really strong at that time.

Westcoast shit is dope as fuck too, sometimes I can't even tell the difference between eastcoast and westcoast, specially the mid/late 90's, hip hop was on lock at that time.
