Meth, Ghost & Rae - Wu-Massacre thoughts?

Postby DrRapid » Mar 31st, '10, 12:15

I was really hyped for Meth, Ghost & Rae's collaboration album Wu-Massacre. Like every other Wu-Tang fan or Hip-Hop fan I was expecting something out standing as this was coming from Method Man, Ghostface Killah & Raekwon he who had fairly recently dropped a classic. Well as soon as I heard Meth on an interview saying how Def Jam had been rushing it and they'd had a low budget then I was no longer expecting something that good. They hadn't had the proper time to make a proper album.

First of all the album is extremely short, 12 tracks and 2 of them being very unnecessary skits. Are you serious? You can tell that some of them are just recycled tracks really... Criminology 2.5 is an updated version of the leaked Criminology 2. It's good although faulty. Raekwon is not even on the track, he got taken off when the original version was his. Ghostface's verse is a recycled one from the OB4CL2 bonus track The Badlands. The next song is Mef vs. Chef 2 and it's good enough but it's not the same as the first. That's understandable since in the first they were fighting to get on the album.

This is getting long so I'll cut it short. Our Dreams (only RZA produced track) is one of the only song with them 3 together, something the rest of the album lacked. Inspectah Deck does a great job in Gunshowers, one of the best ones off the album. Miranda has a great beat and a great verse by Meth. Pimpin' Chipp is a solo Ghostface track with some flavour to it. The rest are either good or above average. There's nothing crap though. The album could of really done with a few more tracks, more mastering and more time to record and perfection.

My rating would be between a 3/5 and a 4/5, lets says a 3.75/5

I've also realised there was little Raekwon in the album in comparison to Meth and Ghost.

Cheers. I'll have a listen then give some feedback.

I probably like Raekwon the least so that doesnt bother me that much.

I basically agree with everything the op said :y:
It is really short, but Meth said Def Jam rushed it, plus they didn't get much of a budget, even still they could have easily put a few more unreleased tracks on here, I know Rae & Ghost have dozens of unreleased material.

I do really like the album, Ghost sounds vintage, and Meth is spitting like a madman on here, the only complaint I have is the length, I actually threw House of Flying Daggers & New Wu on this album on my iTunes and it definetly adds a bit more edge ( mainly because all 3 members feature on those 2 tracks ). Im loving Youngstown Heist at the moment ( why isnt Rae on here? ) along with Miranda and Gunshowers ( "fuck ya life thats the motto, Im nice with Mics-Cus 'Damato" Meth kills this! )

Overall I think its a nice album, but with a bit more time and a larger budget, it seriously could have been a very special release.

KB - What did you think of Chamber Music? I actaully loved it, despite it's poor reviews.

Kill Too Hard ft. Masta Ace was one of my favourite tracks of '09 and the live instrumental production by The Revelations was a genius idea.

Yeah the amount of skits kinda ruin it, (its like song then skit, song then skit) but the quality of the tracks, especially in production, make it up for me.

Good features as well - Ace, AZ, Kool G Rap and a few others.

I hate the Norwegian record stores! I went downtown to buy the album today and they didn't have it. I'm really tempted to just DL now and buy it later...........
