Yeah I agree. He's made some classics though.

I mean "Lose Yourself" from nothing, is awesome. Just a melody in his head. Into that beautiful, layered, piano-driven, thumping, rock-spirited classic.

His melodies sound as if you've heard them a million times too. Just because they're so... Memorable.

Luis Resto gives a lot of props to Em though. He played the keyboards and does on quite a lot of recent and recentish Em stuff but the melodies are Em's.

Yeah I think it's totally amazing.

I can't think of any other rapper like him. It's even hard to find another musician or... Artist in anything (films, music, whatever) that is so good at nearly all the different elements.

It's like Dre, he's the producer. The maestro. Other people write his rhymes, he can flow good but he's not a lyricist. Then you got like Nas, the lyricist, other people make his beats, he's a writer.

But Em like crafts everything. Lyricist, producer, mixer and the beats he does make are usually original melodies from his head that he then crafts the lyrics too. Total individualist.

That's an interesting thought about transferable talent too. I actually have ADHD though (99% sure, waiting to get to clinic) and I'm pretty sure he has it. One thing about it is, it makes you obsessive. Makes you meticulous about things.

You usually have to be obsessive to be the best too. It's like I've been doing card magic for years and on some of my video performances... Magicians are like amazed at little details I've obsessed in perfecting which I just sort of assumed other people would do the same. Thinking they would be zoning in like me.

Em is very obsessive. I think he would master anything he fell in love with.

That's real interesting. I think you're right with a lot of what you said. Em is definitely obsessive-compulsive, a perfectionist, as if he would want to do something exactly right and his way, whatever it was. To be honest, I believe there are a good number of people like that (perhaps like yourself who have ADHD), just what Eminem has that so many others don't is the drive and the workrate to get so much done. And I'm sure glad he does. What the world doesn't is a million lazy geniuses.

The whole concept of fitting syllables to a beat and to a pattern suggests that these people are perfectionists, striving to make things fit perfectly (ie, the words in their music). Eminem is very good at this, and has raised himself on it from a young age, so it's no wonder he has such an obsessive-compulsive/perfectionist nature. It's like what an architect does, or any other skilled craftsmen - they craft things, and therefore must be meticulous. If not they get ANGRY - or - work non-stop until what they are doing is 'right'.

Well it's true there are a lot of obsessive rappers. People like Nas who too love the craft.

But I don't think it's true to say that if you are a rapper, you're a perfectionist. I don't want to give the hacks that much credit lmao. Because there are plenty of lazy rappers just doing it for money and / or image. Who don't care about the craft. Like in any genre, art, whatever.

I also don't think you would get angry very much if you love what you're doing. I used to love card magic, still do but haven't practiced properly or learned anything new for ages. But when I used to spend hours perfecting a performance video or something... I mean, okay bad example, I would sometimes get angry if continually fucking up in the same place lmao.

But when I'm learning, when I started to perfect moves and things like this. I didn't see it as laborious, I loved it. I loved trying to make it better and better. I loved trying to find the best known magician who's supposedly the best possible person on X move, studying him and trying to out-do him and add to the move and innovate. It's exciting. If you love your craft it should be a joy.

This is why rappers who try and brag and say "I wrote the album in a week" don't impress me lmao. That just shows you don't give a shit about your craft. Because I'm sure Em could write an album in that length of time or just freestyle songs too but so what lmao. If you love the craft why would you. You would want to create immensely tight, perfected art. And you don't get that from fast work. It's not cool to say you wrote 10 hits in a day, I think it's lame lmao. I'm more impressed by a rapper that says "I've spent all day on this verse". I love meticulous people who love their art and perfect it.
