I'll check it when it's out but I just have never been excited by Canibus.
He's obviously a good technical rhymer but I don't agree he's one of the best emcees and definitely not the level of Em and Nas. To me. He's not an all-rounder, isn't that witty and just tries so hard to show off skim-knowledge of philosophy and psychology as if he's a genius for knowing what the subconscious is lmao.
But it's not applied, directed or conveyed properly. He just mentions things as if I should be impressed he knows these things. But he rarely gives any justification for doing so. Just wants to look smart. He just seems to spit endless, aimless rhymes to try and cram as much pop-knowledge of intellectual subjects in as possible. Without ever actually proving he knows much about any of them.
Just comes across as a show-off to me. I also find his flow annoying, I like hardcore like that, like Xzibit, it's cool but the kind of... I dunno how to explain it. Like his cheeks are packed with marsh mallows and he's trying to swallow them in time to say his rhymes. Yeah, that's it, Xzibit with marsh mallows in his mouth haha.
Maybe that's why he always looks angry when he's spitting. He's pissed off he can't swallow his marsh mallows in time.
To anyone who read all of that though and disagrees. Fine but I'm not looking for a debate on Canibus. Just giving my opinion him, how I see his rhymes. Not looking to open-fire as I've made up my mind on him, I won't be convinced lol. I'll check the new album like I do with any potential artist though.
Whatever. Personal taste though but I don't think it'll touch the sides of Relapse 2.
