I'm probably one of the only hip hop fans that doesn't like this album, just doesn't click with me

Fair enough, I don't like Reasonable Doubt either and everyone calls it an undeniable classic. It's opinion. I wouldn't deny some of Jay's skill on it but it's just not a classic to me.

I'd say Reasonable Doubt is a pretty good album, but not a top ten of all time or anything. It's much more excusable as a hip-hop fan to not like that than Black on Both Sides.

I wouldn't agree, many people ( me included ) have Reasonable Doubt in their top 10, for many people its the reason why Jay is in their top 10, I can't say the same thing for Black on Both Sides, their completely different albums and cater for different audiences so its hard to compare them.

BOBS is definitly one of the best albums ever, but better than RD? Base, you're not too fond of Jay, atleast that's how you come across, and you prefer Mos over Jay. That's OK, that's your opinion, but I still think, and alot of Hip Hop fans agree with me on this, that RD is better than BOBS.

The overall feel that RD gives you when you listen to it is not the same feeling you get listening to BOBS. There's more to a song than just technicalities and beats, it's the feeling you get, the emotion. And RD was Jay at his best, imo, and I prefer listening to RD over BOBS.

Don't get me wrong, I love BOBS, it's a great album, but RD is better imo.

Doesn't work that way for me. I realize it's about more than just socially-conscious lyrics.

Black on Both Sides carries a consistent vision and them, he inhibits a powerhouse flows on every track and he's a way more effective spitter than Jay in my eyes. I think it's a smarter album, a better sounding album, a more lyrical album, a better presented album. It's just better in every way.

It doesn't just make you think more, I can ignore the messages and political themes and just hear the music. And what I hear is phenomenal talent blossoming through my speakers. Where as on RD I hear a smooth, repetitive rapper spitting average lyrics, nothing new.

And to MCZU, that's fine in most hip-hop fans think Reasonable Doubt is better. I didn't say they were wrong. But to me they are. RD doesn't touch the sides of BOBs I don't think. I also think Mos is ten times what Jay will ever be in every department as an MC.

Listened to 'hip hop' and im gonna give this a try soon, might change my view on rap once again. But whats up with bringing jay in here?

This is interesting. I just started listening to Mos Def a couple days ago and just finished listening to BOBS yesterday and I login today to see this topic, lol. I think it's a really good album, he definitely delivers on it. But if what guys say is true, and his next album's don't compare, that's unfortunate.
