Yeah that's fine being inspired by the odd classic line or two. Or re-writing it, an obvious homage here and there. Nobody is 100% original, everybody draws inspiration.

Em himself has done it, even with "The Way I Am" chorus, paying homage to Rakim's.

But that's entirely different to stealing line after line, in original form and applying it to yourself as if you wrote it. Or changing a word or two and acting like it's your material. And again not just a few times, dozens and dozens. He's a biter.

He's written more than he's bitten. He's a writer.

So what if he's written more than he's bitten. He still makes a habit attempting to steal other people's lyrics. Shameful.

''Good writers borrow from other writers, great writers steal from them outright.'' - Aaron Sorkin
Same sword they knight you they gon' good night you with
Sh.., Thats' only half if they like you
That ain't even the half what they might do
Don't believe me, ask Michael
See Martin, see Malcolm
You see Biggie, see Pac, see success and its outcome
See Jesus, see Judas; see Caesar, see Brutus
See success is like suicide
Suicide, it's a suicide
If you succeed, prepare to be crucified

Well he may be a great screenwriter but I disagree with that statement.

Great writers create originality. Stealing concepts... Themes and things like this is different to what Jay-Z does. I think Sorkin meant this type of 'stealing' to create scripts.

But just plain stealing actual words they've written is lame as fuck. That may wash with some people, to just say "that's what great writers do" but not with me. If you're that great you create your own work. Anybody can steal.

Great writers like Gervais, write things like The Office from scratch. Sure, he had a ton of influences like Spinal Tap, which he doesn't even try to hide. But the words coming out of the characters mouth, creation itself, is original to him. It's groundbreaking.

To just take what other writers have written and word for word reproduce it as your own work is theft and the lowest thing to do.

Just drop it, for Christ's sake. Your opinion on Jay-Z will not change him; no need to write on and on about the fact that he "bites", in your opinion. We get it. I'm not moved, but we get it. :y:

Biting isn't necessarily plagiarism, in that sense, as Jay-Z pays homage to B.I.G., so at least he gives credit to Biggie. More like paying respect, but yes, he does overuse it at times. :n:

It's not opinion. It's a fact that he bites and I'm not the one going on about it, I dropped it a few replies ago but people are responding to me so I'm responding back.

Don't tell me to drop it, I made the thread. If you don't wanna continue the discussion then don't but I and everybody else are quite free to do so.

@Adam, Em don't bite. He pays obvious homages by either re-writing (slick rick, 2pac etc.) or he re-works the line / whatever to pay an obvious homage. Like "The Way I Am" to Rakim.

That's totally different to what Jay does. Which is continually stealing Biggie's lines word-for-word, spitting them as his own thoughts and often changing a word or two to fit his personality to act as if he wrote it. He's a biter. Even bits obscure underground freestyles etc.

He's paying respect to Biggie. He even mentions Biggie's name at times when he bites. For fuck's sake, even if Jay is the biggest biter in history, he writes dope original lyrics too. :shakehead:

No, he says he's paying homage after he's fucking caught.

Paying homage is a line or two or an obvious re-write or emphasis of a line. Not slipping in line after line, album after album. Even on BP3, bits of a Biggie freestyle lmao, ridiculous.

When you're doing it album after album and pretending they're your lyrics and not just the odd line but half fucking verses, that's biting. He's just playing the homage card as an excuse. It's lame.

Nas summed it up
"How many of Biggie's rhymes gonna come out yo fat lips?"

Nas doesn't feel the need to do it but he does. If he's as awesome as he pretends to be he'd of stopped by now. When you're starting out, fine, but for 13 years? The guy's a bum.

And regardless of the biting I don't agree he's that great a writer either. There's so many better, he's never been a serious #1 contender to me.

@ EminemBase, the only proof you have that Hov bites Big is the YouTube video. When we need a lawyer, we'll call you. Until then... :coffee:

What do you mean 'the youtube video' lmao. That video has audio of Biggie's rhymes and then Jay-Z stealing them. That's undeniable proof.

You can say you're cocky little comments all you like. How much stronger could the proof fucking be. Anybody who knows Biggie's music can hear it every album anyway. Fool.

When I need an uninformed asswipe who worships a total fraud, I'll call you :coffee:
