Overrated imo.

Well that's your opinion.
My opinion is that his first is a classic... His second maybe not actually but his third is to me.
He increased his scope and ambition each time and each got tighter. Like Em.
I agree his flow(s) and technique aren't the best in the game but there's just something unique about the way he does it. I don't actually think his lyricism is average though. He doesn't rhyme the most or in the best way but he does it differently, has a poetic touch and comes out with flashes of brilliance.
His passion always stabilizes each track with an underlaying sense of ambition and strive for originality though. And he often achieves it. He also blends elements of soul and other music into his tracks too, successfully.
I probably like Graduation the most. Every track works, it's not too long, no pointless skits, it has a consistent feel and theme to it. It's great. I'd say it's a classic for those reasons and the fact each track is different and brilliant for different reasons.
Also, thinking about it, his lyricism is far from average when he's on his A-Game. Just listen to "Homecoming". I mean, not only a superb collaboration but his lyricism is great on it I think. It's more about the way he puts things, like Em... Often... Abstract, speaking above the average listener and not being afraid to do so. Respecting that if only a handful get it, that's okay because he only needs that handful and building that specific handful as apposed to a generic bunch is the true goal.

You're right about Kanye being ambitious thats for sure. He's definetely an artistic person but it would be ideal if he had the killer presentation to go with it consistently; lately I have noticed him stepping up his game on feautures so we'l see where he goes with it.

You seem to grab every opertunity to compare him to Eminem, when in actual fact they couldn't be more different (in terms of what they both think an album should sound like), one's heavy on rap, one's heavy on singing, one has done songs with rappers like Xzibit,Dre & Snoop, one has done songs with singers like Wayne & T-Pain, I can't comment if Kanye has grown over his albums like Em did but I'll take your word for it, I'm not basing my opinion on what Eminem thinks, but I believe Kanye is one of the "pussys who queefed all over the rap game naked".

DrRapid wrote:To those who think Kanye West ruins Hip Hop well I perfectly see where you coming from. That's what I used to think. I used to think "bah, Kanye West is just another rapper doing nothing for Hip Hop." Well at that time what did I even know about Kanye? Nothing. I was so wrong to say that, I finally felt like I should give him a chance and I loved The College Dropout just as his other next 2 albums immediately. It was so easy to like, I didn't even have to put the effort to like them and listen to them. I realised that what really did the thing was the production. I also realised that he produced some really hot tracks I like by Jay-Z. So yeah, I used to think he ruined it but now I think he's doing something for it. If it weren't for his celebrity bullshit though it would be better.
