Relapse vs. Other Eminem albums

Postby shadyboymez » Jan 16th, '10, 21:04

Okay so it has been quite some time since the release of Relapse, and I honestly haven't checked out the album sales at all. I personally don't like using the sales as a basis for judging an album, but was just curious how it ended up doing up to this point. Are Refill sales included in Relapse sales, or is that completely separate?
And do these sales indicate that Relapse was a "successful" album, compared to the massive success of SSLP, MMLP, Eminem Show?
I don't think it should be close to those 3, based on the fact that sales are way down these days and the quality doesnt match up in my mind...but who knows. I heard Soulja Boy sold alot of records haha.

You are my idol. :flutter:

But in all seriousness, Relapse sold much less than all his other albums. But I also feel it was one of his weakest efforts. :n:

Ironically enough, contradicting my beliefs about sales not being relevant to quality, for Eminem's case, this could somehow be applied. As MMLP sold the most, I find it his best record, and The Eminem Show sold the second most, which is his second best record, and so forth. :confusion:

EDIT
: But really, fuck sales. Some of my favorite albums never charted.

Alot of that has to do with all the songs leaking about two weeks early.

Not dickriding Wayne, but he sold 1.0 mil first week in the worst times of the economy, while Eminem only sold 600,000.

Bring the excuses. :shifty:

Yea it really is too bad that Eminem got so outsold by Wayne, but it's just a sign of where "hip-hop" is at these days. We may know that Eminem is the greatest and shits on Wayne all day.. but the younger crowd of radio-listeners will like whatever gets stuffed into their little ears, or so it seems.

However, I think Em did a terrible job (or the label I guess) at promoting Relapse. With singles like We Made You, Crack a Bottle, I instantly thought it was gona be a flop. Thankfully the singles were probably the 2 worst tracks on the album, but I still think it was an embarrasing choice of singles.

There werent many kids walkin around singin We Made You, or bumpin it in their rides, the way A Milli was getting played when it released. Also, I know Crack a Bottle was popular, but I never even thought it was an album quality track. I think the reason that Eminem still gets decent sales, despite the descent in quality is that he is Eminem, as dumb as that may sound. Eminem was a hype-machine early in his career, and his music did a great job backing up all the media coverage he was getting. Now it seems like since the Eminem Show, the music just hasn't been close to the level it used to be, but it's hard for fans to admit that for some reason.

Em is smarter and better than that, or so I thought.

Em wanted radio-friendly singles.
