Ten Albums... More Than 10 Years... A Hip Hop Legend
Based on not only my personal opinion, but a great wide opinions from people all around the world, gathered all the opinions and informations I came up with a top 10 of his worst to best albums
(this review only contains his Mayor Studio Albums)
10. The Game Is To Be Sold, Not To Be Told (1998)
despite of having hyphe for tracks like "Gin & Juice II" and "Still a G thang" this sequel type album of snoop is the worst that the West Coast legend has ever made, executive produced by Master P, the west coast style gangster type album was not well recieved by critics and by fans when the hyphed tracks turned out to be not half of the best of what they were thought to be, and with an overall bad review of tracks this turned to be the worst studio album in snoop dogg's history
9. Malice N' Wonderland (2009)
the most recent album from snoop dogg, with a sudden turn into mainstream media, the album turned into an exagerated way of what music fans like to dance too, with singles like "Gansta Luv" with singer/producer The Dream, the album turned out to be of what surprisingly the best track features Soulja Boy, who is considered by many hip hop heads to be the worst rapper ever to exist, tho the album represents a Union for the West coast with features like new commer Nipsey Hussle, and wc veteran Kokane, the produciton of the album was not well recieved, placing Malice N' Wonderland as one of the worst albums in Snoop Dogg's History
8. The Doggfather (1996)
By many fans considered to be one of the struggling starts of the West Coast superstar, even with the union of the west side rappers from Kurupt & Bad Azz to Too $hort & soopafly, but the album itself represented a more local though of Snoop Dogg himself, even with the success of the single “The Doggfather” with Charlie Wilson, the album did not attract the fans as much as the album Debut of Snoop three years before, with the almost single handled production of Dj Pooh and the absence of friend Dr.Dre: the album did not made a good impression as a second album
7. R&G Rythm and Gansgta, The Masterpiece (2004)
As promised the album turned out to be in a same way as its predecessor “Paid The Cost To Be The Boss” but with a lower attraction to fans, with a feature from 50 Cent which came out not in an expected way and what many consider to be average productions from The Neptunes the album didn’t follow up to the single “signs” with Justin Timberlake and the excellent “drop it like its hot” with pharrell, even if many consider the album to be the one with some of the greatest hits, the entire album did not came up to par with a few songs.
6. Ego Trippin (2008)
Snoop Dogg turned into a different way to make his studio solo efforts with this album, with production from legendary Teddy Riley (Michael Jackson’s old producer), and keeping the feature list to a minimum, the west coast rapper made the west side get the eyes back on 2008, even tho the album material is not considered to be near his best, songs like Sexual Eruption brought a new interesting part of the rapper. But many consider that style overplayed, as well as his follow up single “Staxx In My Jeans”. Fans believe that this album had everything to be a classic west coast album exept the real Snoop Dogg, who doesn’t let money get into his music, making this album the exeption.
5. Paid The Cost to be the Boss (2002)
In a highly competitive year, Snoop Dogg was able to maintain his reputation as a West Coast legend, this album kept the old Snoop Dogg with the unique vibe, working with producers like DJ Premier and The Neptunes for the first time, The rapper delievered a great taste of what the Dub C has to offer, although the album contains a wide range of songs without any replay value, it also has Snoop’s masterpiece “Beautiful” with Pharrell Williams and “Lollipop” along with Jay-Z, Soopafly & Nate Dogg.. with classic songs not released as single like “From Long Beach 2 Brick City” along Redman & Nate Dogg... This album is considered to be the middle point of Snoop Dogg’s legendary Status.
4. No Limit, Top Dogg (1999)
The album released at the peak of Dr.Dre’s empire although not under Aftermath, helped Snoop Dogg bring the fans what they needed. A shot of West Coast, the album by many considered to be his darkest album, is the nest of hits like “Bitch Please” along with fellow West Coast legend Xzibit and Nate Dogg, the album featured his long time 213 crew and new solo from Onyx, Sticky Fingaz which was at Dre’s world in that time, although highly critizised for tracks like “Down 4 My Niggaz” other hip hop heads considered Snoop Dogg a real rapper. With a classic feature from Dr.Dre in just dippin, snoop dogg turned the album into a classic, even if the album could contain some content that might have pissed off fans a little.
3. Doggy Style (1993)
The birth of the legend, Snoop Dogg’s debut album in 1993 made heads bang with a completely new vibe, under Dr.Dre’s guidance, Snoop Dogg made an excellence of California with this album, in the Golden Age of Hip Hop. The album featured all time hits “Whats my Name” & “Aint No Fun”, even if the album is not considered a favourite for Snoop Dogg fans, it is the arrival of a young hungry legend into the game. Reaching Number 1 on the billboard, Snoop Dogg knew this was the path for him.
2. The Blue Carpet Treatment (2006)
To many the re-confirmation of West Coast hip hop, The Blue Carpet Treament was the return of a Powerfull and Young snoop Dogg, getting back to the gangsta ways of music art, Snoop Dogg achieved after 13 years in the game another classic album. With nostalgic tracks like “Imagine” produced and featuring the great Dr.Dre, to new gangsta songs like “Boss’ Life” featuring Akon, The West Coast star brough a piece of west side art into the world, proving that he still has not had enough, Uniting the West Coast again with the guest appearances from The Game, Ice Cube, E-40, B-Real and more, and with productions of Dr.Dre back again, Dj Pooh and Battlecat. The album proves to be one of the Best in his career.
1. Tha Last Meal (2000)
Fans say, there is just something about this album that makes it the best, the album demonstrated this unique love that Snoop has for his music, for his West side, for his friends and finally for his fans. With tracks like “Snoop Dogg” under the production of Timbaland, or West Coast classic “Lay Low” under the production of Dr.Dre. And not to mention the balance singer Kokane brought to the hooks, this album quickly became the all time favourite from fans all around the world. Along with producer Scott Storch, Snoop Dogg managed to get in touch with his music, songs like “Break Fluid” & “Ready 2 Ryde” made it clear that you don’t have to make them singles to make them hits. That is why this album still remains as the Best from The legend, The man, The Dogg. “Whats the use of the truth if you cant tell a lie sometimes” .... “Its time To shine, the World is mine”...
