Well not really.

Rehash in what sense. He doesn't sound anything like any of his other albums or anybody else in hip-hop and I haven't heard anything like "Medicine Ball" from him before.

It's only a rehash in the sense he's gone back to talking about zany shit, celebrities and murder. Which would make sense since it is called Relapse and that's part of the double-meaning. Relapsing back to old subject-matter.

It's not a rehash though. It's done totally new and incredibly crafted.

Thank You is just the same old bragging crap with weak punch lines.

good songs on BP3 are actually meaningful substantial songs like So Ambitious & Young Forever.

edit: just listened again. Thank You's alright actually. still a filler track.

How is Young Forever NOT a brag song? That's just Jay-Z's trademark...you can't really criticize him for that as he's done songs like consistently that since Reasonable Doubt. This song however Is as cliche and poppy as it gets. The Sting sample is the best part, LOL.

So Ambitious...Meh. Listening again, the first verse is one of the better ones on the album (and it's not really all that great)...really just a boring, uninspired, crappy song.

Thank You is somewhat respectable rhyme-wise (the first two verses anyway) and Kanye did a good job on the beat. Only song on the album that (sort of) feels like the old Jay-Z.

People are saying that BP3's SINGLES were better than Relapse's. As a album, Relapse slaughters BP3. You're an idiot if you think BP3 "went hard". It doesn't, it's just Jay bragging the whole time, and every song has a feature. It's a boring, unoriginal album. Relapse, on the other hand, is one of the most interesting albums of 2009, and is as original as they come. Despite it being the "same old, same old", Relapse crafts a storyline, that you can see if you really pay attention. Relapse has replay value, I still listen to it sometimes. BP3, I listened to it twice, haven't listened to it since. Boring album, why it's so popular is that Empire State of Mind song, and that's not that great of a song. You're probably about the only person on here who thinks BP3 has more replay value than Relapse, and if you think that, you're not a hip-hop fan. You might as well say Lil Wayne is better than Eminem too, while you're at it

Came back to annihilate, the game's in dire straights, as I await
Word on Satan, as I drop, fall to my knees before this Quija board and I pray
Now I lay me down to sleep
I do this shit in my sleep, I’m sleepin' now, imagine if I awake

Really? I didn't spin BP3 more than a few times.

Aside from musically I think it's pretty lame, totally overwhelmed with features. It's a collab album not a Jay-Z album and it's built to seem impressive without ever proving it. Like a movie built for winning Oscars.

Relapse has immense replay value to me due to the level of craft. The layers of lyricism and flow, when I first got it I was just infatuated with the skill of the delivery and now it's pure enjoyment. BP3 doesn't hold a candle to it in any department FOR ME.

B.o.B's mixtape - B.o.B vs. Bobby Ray - is 100x better than BP3 to me too. I'm still playing that now, nearly every song is more interesting than anything out of Jay's mouth.

Really? For me, BP3 is just "another rap album". There is nothing that seperates it from anything else. the rhymes are average an boring, punchlines are weak and it desont have the same unique-ness that Relapse brought.

I should alliberate on that. What I kinda meant was there is nothing unique about the album compared to his previous work. I've heard that tone of song from jay loads of times. Thats why I always say Reasonable doubt was his best shit. Simple beats which let him show of his obvioualy talented, rhyming skills. Since then, I believe only Blueprint and maybe Hard Knock Life have showed that side to him.

I didnt even like American Gangster or The Black Album.

Blueprint 3 is all too same-y for me.

I like maybe half of the Black Album, the rest is kinda boring. I can see why people are fans of American Gangster, I've just never really been able to enjoy it.
