I'd love R2 to contain an Em & Dre classic...

Postby MikeNUFC » Jan 26th, '10, 18:04

When Dre signed Em in 1998, the first two albums released by the two were Chronic 2001 and Slim Shady LP. Arguably, the best two tracks on both albums were Em and Dre collabs; Guilty Conscience & Forgot About Dre. Two classic hip hop tracks from that period that have stood the test of time. Also that year, they released 'Bad Guys Always Die' for the Wild Wild West Soundtrack. Another fantastic song.

Since then, however we have had:
-Bitch Please II - Decent track but let down by too many artists on it and a poor verse from Snoop. IMO, worst song on MMLP
-Say What You Say - Probably the worst song on TES. Is still a good song, but nothing to make you go'wow'
-Encore - Nice catchy chorus with some nice bits here and there but again, doesnt match the feel that the 1999 tracks had and grinds on me.
-Crack A Bottle - I absolutey hate this track. :shakehead: Poor verse from all 3 artists and annoying chorus
-Old Time Sake - I dont usually have a problem with 'that' accent but I just dont feel it is neccessary here and makes Em's verses unlistenable. Not a fan of the beat either.
-Hell Breaks Loose - Probably the best of the lot since the '99 tracks. Nice beat, Em's verse is fire but IMO Dre's verse lets this down. Not bad but nothing special. Still a good song, but not a classic.

I'd love to pick up R2 for the first time, listen to Dre's collab on it and have the same feeling I got with Forgot About Dre and Gulty Conscience. That would imprve R2 a lot if that were to happen. :worship:

Well I would agree that "Forgot About Dre" is arguably one of the best songs on Chronic 2001 but I don't think "Guilty Conscience" is close to the best on SSLP.

It's a great concept which was executed very well but I could name just off hand a bunch on the album which I think shit on it... "Brain Damage", "97' Bonnie & Clyde", "Role Model", it's not even arguably the best for me.

Say What You Say - Probably the worst song on TES. Is still a good song, but nothing to make you go'wow'

I disagree here. Worst song? Em's verses are fire and the verses Em wrote for Dre are nice too, they all play off each other non-stop, switching, it's fantastic.

Only thing bad about it is Dre's ridiculously loud beat again but I think it's a great song. N' Em definitely made me go 'wow' on it.

Encore - Nice catchy chorus with some nice bits here and there but again, doesnt match the feel that the 1999 tracks had and grinds on me.

Well aside from 50's as always abysmal appearance, I think this is a stellar track. Great chorus and great verses from Em. It feels very substantial and anthemic.

Crack A Bottle - I absolutey hate this track. :shakehead: Poor verse from all 3 artists and annoying chorus

Well I hate this song again only because of 50. I don't know how you can call Em's verse poor.

"The elephants have entered the room"

It's great. It's a throwaway song and shouldn't of been on Relapse but it's only terrible thanks to 50.

Old Time Sake - I dont usually have a problem with 'that' accent but I just dont feel it is neccessary here and makes Em's verses unlistenable. Not a fan of the beat either.

I actually love this track. Guess it's just personal preference. I also think his flow is awesome.

Hell Breaks Loose - Probably the best of the lot since the '99 tracks. Nice beat, Em's verse is fire but IMO Dre's verse lets this down. Not bad but nothing special. Still a good song, but not a classic.

I actually hated this when I first heard it. It's since grown on me but not a favourite of their collabs.

Em's verses are cool but lazy in places but you say 'Dre's verses'. Well, either Em or somebody else wrote them for him so... I guess you could say Em let you down but he doesn't have too much to work with tbf. All people can ever write about Dre is how important his past shit is and how he smokes weed.

---

I also would like another great concept song from them before they bow out as a pair.

But not on R2. We have a limited selection of collabs for R2 so unless it's a concept like "Guilty Conscience" I'd rather see no Dre track.

We already have a 50 and a D12 track... That's two wasted already IMO. Since 50 is awful and the D12 will be same old unless they've reinvented themselves, which is unlikely.

All Em n Dre ever do is party shit where Em plays the crazy bad cop and Em writes Dre as the straight up good doctor who's still relevant and important. N' it's because Dre hasn't been for a long time because he's put out two albums in 18 years so that's all they can do.

I could do without the usual same old Dre track on R2. Already 3 possible generic tracks... Not good.

What? Becuase it's different to yours? Honestly, the whole point of discussion boards is to make your point, discuss different views, back up your points

So instead of making pointless, ignoarant comments, say why you like the song, why you disagree with what I say.

And obviously you did "care about my post" as you bothered to reply to it...

Say What You Say is a good song, I just don't like that loud beat and I reckon its the worst song on TES (which doesnt make it a bad song). Depending on my mood, Hailies Song ranks as the worst (not a fan of Em singing).

^ I love his "Old Time's Sake" verses.

"Speak of the devil it's attack of the rain man, chainsaw in hand, blood-stain on my apron"

I think it's all very poetic and witty. It's one of the tracks that was close to reviving some of that 'classic' wit for me. Along with "Same Song & Dance".

Also, the way he goes

"You get the thermometer, I'll the BWWWAAAanndeges"

Was one of the only bits to actually make me laugh out-loud on Relapse lol. Just the audacity of bending a word so absurdly and the way he does it, southern-tinge, just sounds funny to me.

I'm with Eminembase on this one, IMO "Old Times Sake" is a great song. I think the accent on the verses makes the hook really stand out.

I agree with you about ''Old Times Sake'', it was the one track on the album that I thought Em would have rapped normally on, instead it sounds like Dre is rapping alongside Pee Wee Herman :zipped:
