his voice in MMLP/Devil's Night was perfect, TES was when his voice started getting deep.

Encore it was the best voice :y:
They claim that I'm violent, just cause I refuse to be silent
These hypocrites are havin fits, cause I'm not buyin it
Defyin it, envious because I will rebel against
any oppressor, and this is known as self defense
I show no mercy, they claim that I'm the lunatic
But when the shit gets thick, I'm the one you go and get
Don't look confused, the truth is so plain to see
Cause I'm the nigga that you sell-outs are ashamed to be

LMAO @ people saying they LIKED the Encore and/or ReUp voices.

That's like saying you enjoy the feeling of kidney stones.

But i guess in his own album (and as a whole anyway) i'd go with TES.

:y: but i love the voice on the SSLP.so i go for SSLP and TES

Well it's sort of half put on half real.

But I don't think he was intentionally or fully consciously trying to sound nasaly.

I think just from that time period, when Shady was emerging and that style was evolving, he was over-pronouncing things when speaking, speaking over the top and hyper.

N' I just think it was his voice. His voice is always changing though, like in real life too.

You can go back to 99' and hear him major Detroit and... High-pitchey, like saying 'on' like OOOWWWWWN etc. n' then you can go to... 00 and hear it slightly more but also more relaxed with occasional squeaks.

Then jump to 01/02 and it's soft like he's speaking like he's just woken up or is on E. Then he started just speaking normal with lots of cliche' white guy jokey 'buddy's' etc. lmao. Constantly changing.

it's very interesting. the change in voice from SSLP to MMLP is enormous. compare "Just Don't Give a Fuck" to "Marshall Mathers." the song that sounds most like his "normal" voice in SSLP in Role Model (especially the chorus).

do you think, perhaps, the heavy drug usage while he toured in 1999 between SSLP & MMLP, changed his voice significantly?

edit: listen to Eminem on Dre's "2001": that's the transition voice from SSLP to MMLP.

Nah I don't think it has anything to do with drugs.

I've done a lot of drugs, especially coke and ectasy - people exaggerate how much it changes you or alters your mindset. Unless you're literally on it all day long, you won't notice lmao.

Like people say 'he's on drugs' and assume that's why he was crazier etc. That's silly. All he used to do was pop pills before shows n stuff like that. It's not like he was walking around constantly on acid or sniffing lines every half an hour.

I've done acid a lot too which is the ultimate mind altering magic beauty lmao and even that doesn't alter your voice / mindset as soon as it's worn off. So coke and shit like that doesn't. Only mood-wise from prolonged use. And he did it fairly inconsistently / random shows etc.

I think he just made a conscious decision to sound different. He does every album. I hear him say before that "If you sound the same as on your last album... What's the point", so it's a conscious thing he's always doing. So sound fresh and keep momentum.

I mean on SSLP he was definitely highering his voice more then on MMLP he just let himself become more natural again. It's because on SSLP he was assuming an alter-ego, being zany and sarcastic so it probably felt like a bit of a character to him, so he exageratted everything about himself / voice too.

But you also have to take into account, he matures and evolves at an alarming rate. People who say Eminem hasn't evolved or doesn't evolve each album quite clearly have no idea what that term should even usually mean. I think by MMLP he was just so much more confident in himself, his persona juggling, everything... He had reason to be. Then of course by TES he was just Pac on steroids. I think it's because on SSLP he was compensating for saying ridiculous things by sounding a bit ridiculous as to emphasize "I'm just joking" but by MMLP he cared less about perception and more about execution.

He said in 07 though that he sometimes listens back to early 98 freestyles and thinks "why am I rapping like that", it's not and never was his true natural tone. He just affected it when acting crazy. Like he said, listen to "Murder, Murder" which was before then, his voice is deep.

Yeah that's probably just because he was living in the heart of Detroit then and SSLP he fresh out.

But by MMLP... I mean it might not sound like a long time but even a year surrounded by people with different accents, when he's never had that before... Bound to take an effect.

It usually happens anyway, inner-city people with strong accents lose a large tinge when they first leave.

Wow really? I like "When I'm Gone" but am so glad he's re-energized and ditched that slow, growly emotional shit.

I was getting bored of it.

I like his re-up super angry shit though. Probably just because for once, he's being arrogant again on it though and pissed that nobody mentions him as one of the best.

I want him address shit like that more.
