Em never signs artists who can rival him lyrically?

Do you think this is the reason Em never signed Royce to Shady, even when Royce asked him. It seems strange that he would turn down a childhood friend & a great rapper who he has collabed with and who appeared on his debut album becuase he was 'busy' then sign 50 a week later..

He's signed Stat Quo and Bobby Creek - both average artists compared to Royce to Shady Records.

The only reason I can think is that Em doesn't want artists on SR that are nearly as good as him or on par with him lyrically, when Em was in his prime. This could be a reason why Shady has never filled it's potential.

Its a shame cus Royce is a dope rapper and could have been big if Em had signed him; would have improved SR's reputation as well. Also, we probably wudda heard more dope 'Bad Meets Evil' tracks

Of course, he's grown up now and could be singing Slaughterhouse but back in the 2001-2004ish I feel this was the case

This is what I've always thought as a sort of half-joke explanation as to why he keeps signing pure bums.

I think back when he signed 50 he genuinely loved him and knew he would be huge. But as for him thinking anything of Stat Quo, Bobby Creekwater and Ca$his... No idea.

I can't imagine Em doing that, but I just don't see any other reason. Them too were inseperable if reports are to be believed, so it seems strange Em would just reject him by saying he was busy then go sign 50. I can understand Royce's anger at it.

Royce used Eminem to get signed.

Royce met Eminem AFTER the SSEP dropped. Then less than a year after they became "friends", Eminem blew up. Then when Royce got a deal, he left Em on tour with no hype man. Then you get Proof coming back to help, and D12 getting signed.

Proof even said it, I can't find the quote, but something like "Royce was on a mission to find Eminem".

That's on some snake shit, for real.
