The Dark Tower Series - Stephen King

Postby Sophie » Feb 2nd, '10, 22:22

I know a couple of you have read this series, so i'm just wondering what it's like. I have the first book (The Gunslinger) because i've heard good things about it and wanted to try it out, after looking at it though i'm not sure if it's my kinda thing, but i'm only in a couple of pages so imma wait a while and see, plus i hate not finishing a book lol.

It was actually a part of the blurb on the back too, that made me want to read it.. 'He is a haunting figure, a loner, on a spellbinding journey into good and evil, in a desolate word which frighteningly echos our own'.

Anyway, just wanted your thoughts/opinions on it? I'm going in with an open mind so hopefully you'll change mine to be excited about it :y:

Thanks guys :flower:

Heard it's good and being a huge Stephen King fan kinda obligates me to read it lol but I don't think it's my type of book.. But I think I might give it a chance one day.

I don't like them. I like his more traditional horror.

Chet Starr wrote:They are great fucking books!!!!

& they are make for huge Stephen King fans, cause he makes tons of references to his other books.

Like for those who have read Salem's Lot, Father Callahan is in the Dark Tower series.

The Gunslinger's world is crazy, but it's cool once you learn it's history.

Like randomly the Gunslinger will sing Hey Jude. Turns out old Beatles songs were like nursery rhymes

& in one of the books, they fight a fucking smart train :o

A FUCKING SMART TRAIN
:o :o :o

You at least have to check the 2nd book. That's when the Gunslinger finds 3 doors that lead to difference times in our world. & he brings people back to his world.

I can't even tell you how crazy the rest of the books are, I'm only on the 4th or 5th one I think haha

i gotta read it. fighting a train sounds awesome

Sophie, I would recommend reading his new book, Under The Dome, while it's still "new" before TDTS. That can wait.
UTD is phenomenal from what I've read so far.

I've actually got this book and haven't got around to reading it yet, apart from a few pages, (i tend to read more then one book at once for some reason lol) but i've heard good reviews about it so thanks for that :y:

I read the first 5 in the series. The second book is AMAZING, the first and 3rd I found to be boring, and the 4th and 5th I think were decent, but sophie, at least finish the first one like you said u were gunna, then read the second, cause the second book is great :y:
