Asher Roth Issue (Yes, it is what you think)

Postby Berry » Feb 4th, '10, 04:34

Right, first off I actually bought Asleep in the bread Aisle (Decent album kinda dull) People made comparisons between him & Em, when I heard him I thought he sounded slightly similar to a young Em. (Just his voice)

Truthfully, I felt criticism on asher was quite harsh.

However, I'm now listeniong the BOB mixtape & there's a track with asher called fuck the money. Is it just me or is he really pushing to sound like a young Em now. (Its quite spooky hahaha)

Is it possible that agents/managers/owners are advising him to do this? Considering how his album didn't sell as well as people thought it would.

I want you to listen & give an honest opinion please?

Edit: Just his voice, NOT CONTENT

There's a shit load of people who have the "I don't give a fuck" attitude. There's a shit load of people doing the "Kill You" attitude. There's a shit load of people rapping about their dark, personal lives and their shitty childhood. There's a shit load of people trying to do comedic songs with a drugged up voice. There's a shit load of people packing a shit load of multis while doing horrorcore.

Asher Roth doesn't fit in with any of these people, yet, we're going to say he's swagger jacking Em.

:y:

If by Young Em you mean "infinite", that whole album was a huge example of swagger jacking in the first place, and even if it wasn't, Asher doesn't sound like that. If by Young Em you mean SSLP days, Asher still doesn't sound like that.

I don't really get the comparison at all. When I first heard this kid, I didn't even know his shit counted as Rap. But of course if you're white, you're going to be compared to Eminem, but if you make a song addressing it titled"As I Em", it's only going to escalate those comparisons even further.

You asked for my honest opinion, there you go.

I'm sorry but I don't respect rappers that go to college that much...gritty comes from poor kids not richie rich that made it into the rap game by talking to their dad and begging for a deal....although roth does have some talent....I have AitBA

I can honestly care less about a rappers past as long as they are good. It just so happens that people that have had shitty lives have been through more so they've had to work harder to develop there skill and they have much more emotion in there songs.

Really? I think otherwise.. as long as they have something interesting to say. it shouldnt really be about college. Theres other things to rap about other than poverty that are just as influential

Talib Kweli came from an educated family. He's dope. :y:
Yo, from the first to the last of it; delivery is passionate/

Projectile that them blasted with; accurate assassin shit/
Me and Kweli close like... Bethlehem and Nazareth/

His voice sounds just like this in every other song of his. No difference or attempt to sound more like Eminem in my opinion. Loving the sample.
