Hell without the west coast, gangsta rap might of never got big

yeah that's a great future to be honest :worship:

Come on man, am I suppose to like Cube cause other people like him?

I don't do that bandwagon shit :n:

Never once did I tell you to like Cube..but give respect where respect is do..to write an entire coast is ignorance..The West has done just as much for hip-hop as the East coast has..

Agreed, I can’t remember seeing him on many Greatest rappers lists posted by various people and sites. So can’t really say he is overrated. Or maybe I’ve only seen the lists he aint on :p

Is he in my top 10 list? No.

Do I think he's overrated? No.

He gets the appropriate amount of props from the appropriate amount of people. Atleast let him have that.

What, in your view, are his "4 solo vclassic albums"?

1. Kill at Will EP: Hardcore, gritty, and almost too aggressive. 7 tracks of pure violence. "Jackin for beats" and "Dead homiez" will always be apart of Hip Hop history.

2. AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted: without doubt, continued on from NWA. Received 5 mics from the Source.

3. Death Certificate. Received 4.5 mics from the Source, arguably one of the most violent and aggressive albums of all time. Considered to be the album that was the "voice" of an entire Coast around that period of time. "No vaseline" put an end to NWA, he destroyed them single handily.

4. The Predator: What the Eminem Show was to Eminem, is what the Predator is to Ice Cube. If Death Certificate was the voice of the West Coast, then this album was voice, ears and eyes of the West Coast. After what happened with Rodney King, this album demanded to be listened to. It had mixing with Public Enemy and Cypress Hill and had blockbusters like Check yo self and It was a good day. Made ice Cube the 'nigga you loved to hate'. Arguably his most "complete album" in that he was hardcore as fuck, yet even spawned some hit radio singles.

All 4 back to back, in consecutive years. How many can say they've done that? None.

Then there's 3 other classic albums he's been apart of; NWA's Straight Outta Compton where he wrote the majority of the lyrics as well as Eazy E's 'Eazy Duz It" where it was much of the same. Then there's Westside Connections 'Bow Down' which is also a classic.

All in all that's almost 7 classic albums he's been apart of. Probably the most for any rapper out there.

His career in its own right is so eerily similar to Eminem as well if you think about it.

Eazy-E's debut isn't a classic, IMO, nor is The Predator. But Cube's first two are. :y:

Don't get me wrong; Cube's music isn't for everyone. It's more socially/politically based, rather than straight lyrically murdering the beat, contrary to what some may expect. :coffee:
Yo, from the first to the last of it; delivery is passionate/
The whole and not the half of it; vocab and not the math of it/
Projectile that them blasted with; accurate assassin shit/
Me and Kweli close like... Bethlehem and Nazareth/

I definietely agree with you his music isn't for everyone, his poetry and flow is not that dynamic and a lot of people can listen to him without ever understanding the fuss.

However, general Hip Hop and general classic terms, he's made a lot of good music, and has had a lot of influence.

Fwiw, for the people talking about his movie career and stuff like that, well for me after 'BoyzNtheHood' he can do what he likes, that movie is a classic for that era where Hip Hop was dominating, it represents Hip Hop in so many ways, it is the Hip Hop visual. Anyway, there's one song you guys should listen to if you haven't heard new Ice Cube, its where he talks about all that. And it is definietely a song everyone can listen to, I recommend it here;
