"Hip Hop Is Dead"

I've honestly had enough of hearing people say this...

When Nas called his album this back in 2006, it seemed like everyone wanted to jump on his bandwagon, pretending they know all about hip hop and how crap it is compared to previously etc etc. Unfortunately since then I seemed to have heard that phrase used more than any other.

Okay, so it might not be a good as it was back in the 90's but that was becuase rap was spoon fed to us.

The best artists were out there, and it wasn't hard to find great albums and music and you didn't have to search deep for it.

Today, there are much more poppy/r & b "rappers" out there but there is still PLENTY of good rappers, especially underground. It just seems like no-one can be fucked to look for it. Everyone expects it to be put on a plate for them. People don't want to have to research to find great new music, which is shame.

Hip-hop is most definitely NOT dead, loads of rappers are coming back into the game, there are some quality underground rappers, you just have to look for it, rather than spend your whole day moaning about it and watching 90's rap youtube videos.

Thankfully, I dont think I've heard it used once on TRShady, that's one reason why this place is brilliant.

I think it pretty much sums your post up. We kill it by supporting crappy ass artists like Wayne, Soulja Boy or bunch of other worthless clowns. I've discovered alot of good artists this winter and they made me believe that below the crappy surface of pop/r'n'b wannabe-artists, there is something still worthy endless hours spent on listening..

You just gotta look for it. And imagine how great it feels when it turns out you discovered something that amazing that it gives you goosebumps when you hit the 'play' button.

Plus, we still got real artists like Nas. 'Distant Relatives' is going to be FIRE, now how can you say hip hop is dead after listening to "Strong Will Continue"?

I agree that hip hop isnt dead but its the older cats that are keeping it going, theres no upincoming artist making an impact music wise imo

in the 80's you had G Rap, Rakim, Krs, Kool Keith, Public Enem, N.W.A etc all coming through

in the 90's you had Nas, Pac, B.I.G, Big L, Em, Wu, the West Coast movement etc all emerging

in the 00's nobody aside from Kanye made anywhere near the impact ( quality wise ) that these guys did

compare the guys that came through over the last 10 years to the ones that came through in the 80's & 90's and you'll see that there is a HUGE dip in quality. Im certain that most peoples favorite rap albums in the last decade are from dudes that came out before 2000, so what im trying to say is hiphop aint dead, but when the likes of Em, Wu and Nas retire who's coming up that can replace them?

UNDERGROUND..the 90's were the mecca of rap because labels were signing artists with talent, not signing kids that 16 year old girls would like to stare at and then giving them the written song and saying "record this"..you shouldnt have to 'research' for good hip-hop it should be on every radio, on mtv, on bet, on everything that covers rap..you shouldnt have to get on youtube to find "good music" it should be at the forefront..instead were given the same 10 shitty songs on the radio with the repeat button permantly on..

And Wayne isnt shitty at all, he was forced to change his style in order to get airplay and to get his money, which is fucked up..no good emcee should have to change how they do things in order to sell records..

The reason hip-hop died is because the hip-hop fans from the 90's are gettin too old to be bothered gettin on mtv to vote for a video, theyre too old to be callin radio stations to request songs..90% of the mtv/bet voters are females ages 16-22..and they dont wanna hear "Wonder Why They Call You Bitch"..they wanna here "YYYYYOOOOOUUUU crank that stupid shit"..so when the label executives look at whats ranked #1 on mtv or bet they get the wrong message, they get the opinion of little girls wantin to shake their ass, not fans of REAL hip-hop so the numbers are misconstrued..thats why hip-hop is on its death bed and "hip-pop" is all over our TVs and radio's

Rappers didn't kill hiphop...generic girls did...they finder themselves for someone like Wayne or Omarion...as long as they can girate and shake to it...its all good. And since there's good rappers out there without great beats...mainstream example Nas...they don't thrive anymore...wayne could mumble mumble and say I shit my pants when I yank and girls would buy it. So no Hip hop is not dead but it has/had one foot in the grave. The only thing that is reviving it is good artists that dropped in '09...Raek, Em, Jay, and new artists like Roth, Cole, and no not drake. So its coming out of its slump...but if artists like the artists on Cash Money are still doing well then it will be always a little bit dead

Hip-Hop will never die, unlike rock & roll, punk, disco etc.. It will just change over years. But i think without the big names (Em & Jay-Z etc.) it will be alot less popular, especially worldwide.

Rap will end up just like Rock N Roll..when you think Rock you think of bands from the 70's and 80's, not the 90's or 00's..so hip-hop will be the same, you will think of the late 80's and the 90's not the 00's or the soon to be 10's...

Generation gaps is what ends up destroying music as we knew it, the pioneers of rap knew what hip-hop was and what it meant..todays kids dont have a fucking clue, 16 year olds were born in what 1994? And by the time they listened to their frist rap record is was what? 10-12 years later, so 2004-2006..by that time hip-hop had already started a tailspin so they didnt know any different, they just followed whatever trend was out instead of listening to the original trendsetters..

I dont have anything against new school shit, but I want it like I want Grey Goose, in small amounts over a decent span, not forced all at once..maybe 1-2 club tracks per album, not 1-2 non-club tracks per album..thats just overkill, but thats what these ignorant kids are buying these days so thats what record labels are puttin out..thats why the newer rappers with an actaul message arent gettin albums done (ie; Obie Trice, Stat Quo, etc)
