The only thing I could thing of was his bad years...Encore and his haitus...but if Relapse 2 is a classic I think people will forget all that
What do you think could be a blotch on his legacy

Relapse just didn't live up to the hype and a rather forgettable album.

Mainstream stopped fucking with him since Relapse cuz he turned to a serial killer and not being a popstar anymore. And not to mention the weird accent put people off![]()
I don't know if we're talking about Em as an emcee or a star in this thread but if we're talking about Em's career in general, Relapse definitely hurts his career the most. You only have one chance to prove people after 5 years & the let down Encore, but he kinda fucked it upRelapse just didn't live up to the hype and a rather forgettable album.
Em lost either way.

Alaine wrote:^ except they're not. Em don't have any radio hit this year like in his previous albums (even Encore have hits), if you can't see it then you're simply in denial cuz it's rather obvious.

But almost everyone I know loves Beautiful, even non - rap fans. When Relapse came out, I don't know if you remember, but it was number one in around 10 countries for several days. Relapse definitely did not hurt his career. Whilst the content may be passable or forgettable, the flow and the rhyme schemes were probably near to the best he's ever done. Crack A Bottle and Beautiful WERE radio hits actually.
that said, not many people knew about the song. Definition of a hit today = radio play, none of Relapse single exploded on the radio. Jay-Z's ESOM is a hit, Beautiful & CAB are not. Just ask a random non-rap music listener, doubt they can name one of the song off the new album

They only care if the song is catchy, while Relapse is musically weak (to me).
He's lucky that his core fanbase still bought the album, cuz I really don't see anyone hearing the singles and want to buy the album.

Shayne L wrote:Since when was Eminem trying to be mainstream anyway? He's not a sell out, he's a genuine rapper. In fact, I remember reading somewhere where he said that he made that album for himself. His own enjoyment, I don't think he actually cares if it sells or not. He just wants to rap. Eminem doesn't make music for 'casual music listeners' so that's irrelevant, and you only have to look at Relapse's sales to know that it was not a failure in any way. Eminem is actually becoming very popular again, I have people who don't even listen to rap asking me stuff like "HAVE YOU HEARD EMINEMS NEW SONG?!" every time a new one comes out. And yes, if I ask casual music listeners to name a song off Relapse they will say "Beautiful" well, at least where I'm from, they would.
All in all, Eminem made this album for himself, and probably for his rap fans. In no way was he trying to win over 'casual music listeners' unless you can show me a quote where he clearly states it.
Number one in over 10 countries speaks for itself, don't you think?

Shayne L wrote:You're absurd. Don't be so egoistic and full of yourself, I did not sign up to debate with you, I joined to show my support to eminem. No I don't regret debating with you, in fact the only outcome was that it cemented my previous beliefs that many people do not deserve to call themselves eminem fans. Good day.
SliK wrote:lol I suppose Relapse and Crack a Bottle won a grammys because they were so unpopular? Not to mention Crack a Bottle BROKE RECORDS for most downloads in a week, going straight to number 1.

Alaine wrote:so I guess it's just coincidence that you sign up today then![]()
it's kinda late to say welcome but you'd be surprised to know that I'm actually called Stan by some ppl here![]()
