Overrated? No, not in the slightest. It's underrated.
I think if he had not put CAB on there (sticks out like a sore thumb and 50 is shit) and... Not put "Beautiful" on there too. It's good but totally different tone / feel to the rest obviously because it was made in a different time period with a different theme.
If he had left off CAB and put on "Taking My Ball" maybe in replacement of WMY then I think it would be a perfect album. Highlight A perfect not THEE perfect album. Because everything else flows and has the same feel and theme like TES tracks all did.
In fact Encore is his only album that felt truly mixed.
But far too many people obsess over its subject matter when they don't (critics included) do anything near the same with criticism of other rappers or musicians period. Because of the fact Eminem ethers any subject he takes on, they obsess over what he's talking about.
And because on TES and Encore it was dominantly personal, people wanted to hear him bitching about real life despite the fact they were all moaning about that 04-06 and saying they wanted him to turn into a psycho again... Then you got people obsessing over the accents.
I'm totally glad he did the accents on Relapse, sounds utterly unique, the flows are insane.
I wasn't disappointed by Relapse at all. When I got it, I was like a kid in a candy shop, studying the flows and the wordplay it was like I was 10 again. And no I'm not 'lying' to my fucking self whatever cunt says people are doing that earlier on. How ridiculously arrogant and bigoted.
Can't wait for R2. With the lyrical space he's in now, unless he has a brain tumour out of somewhere, I can't see myself being disappointed.
