My 'Relapse' Tracklist

Postby EminemBase » Feb 11th, '10, 14:48

Just thinking... Out of the tracks from the Relapse to Refill period released, if I were to make my own perfect single Relapse album out of those, limiting it to 20, I think it'd go like this...

1. Dr. West (skit)
2. My Darling
3. 3am
4. My Mom
5. Bagpipes from Baghdad
6. Hello
7. Tonya (skit)
8. Same Song & Dance
9. Taking My Ball
10. Drop the Bomb on 'Em
11. Medicine Ball
12. Elevator
13. Buffalo Bill
14. Stay Wide Awake
15. Mr. Mathers
16, Deja Vu
17. Music Box
18. Hell Breaks Loose (ft. Dr. Dre)
19. Careful What You Wish For
20. Underground

Hmm.. Tough though. CWYF also sticks out like "Beautiful" but I feel the stern tone is more relevant and... Useful for near-closing the album.

Nah I think "My Darling" is a better fit for track 2. "3am" he's opening the door at the start of the track then he goes into the fact he's just walked in and there's bodies everywhere.

the Dr. West skit sounds like a vague homage to The Slim Shady EP intro, which is likely since Em said he went back and listened to that shit.

But "My Darling" he actually wakes up at the beginning. He yawns then goes into it and then he's fighting with his alter ego or the devil or wtf ever throughout the track, it's perfect.

On "Dr. West" that voice, the 'evil' voice is even the same and even says "Marshall, what's the mater darling..." then goes into the deeper voice. It's as if that intro was made to lead into "My Darling" but then he took it off.

Not IMO. "Beautiful" is a great track but not a Relapse track. Feels totally out of place and is a dent in the theme and feel I think.

It's like... "Stimulate", which Em made around 02/03, originally intended for TES, it's an amazing track. But I'm definitely glad he left it off, it would of been an oddball on there. Feels too different.

Well..Beautiful is from when he was in rehab...so it has something to do with the drugs and all that shit..and it's like the other side of his drug problem, the suffering u know.

I almost agree with this list, though I think Insane and Buffalo Bill deserves a spot. The opening is perfect though :y: My Darling fits perfectly after Dr. West and 3 A.M fits perfectly after My Darling

I'm not saying it's not relevant. But it's totally different in feel and theme. Obviously because it was from his slow / growly period.

But "My Darling" I think could fit because of its pure extreme / powerful concept and if it were at the start, it's like he's battling with it then he's taken over by it and then the Relapse begins.

But as it stands, it sticks out like a sore thumb. Especially so late into the album, sounding so different. Production, flow and lyrics wise.

@Anim, oh shit yeah - I forgot to put "Buffalo Bill" back, I did have it on there, I'll have to edit it a mo. Grr, I swapped it for "Must be the Ganja"... I love that track though.

The track list seems good. Would be even better with 'Insane'.

Oh I've been lurking in the wake hot lady :)

I think "Insane" is okay but don't get why people think it's as great as it is. I know his flow is nice and hard when the 2nd verse comes in and he's boxing the shit out of the beat but it's nothing special to me.

If I was forced, it wouldn't be an essential Relapse track to me.

I actually agree with you about My Darling being the track after Dr. West. Like you said, it sounds perfect, conceptually and how it sounds. Think about it, he wakes up at the end of Dr. West, and in My Darling he yawns, as if just waking up. And during My Darling, he's battling with the Shady inside of him, and then at the end you hear it taking over, thus the Relapse truly begins and 3AM opens with him killing everyone. Whoever told him to leave My Darling out is retarded, it's one of my favorite songs by him. The drama in that song is unreal, and it had a lot of emotion. I do think Beautiful should be on there, it being my favorite track from Relapse. You can tell that the song means a lot to Em, and it would mean a lot to me too if I wrote it. Maybe before Careful What You Wish For, and I just think Taking My Ball should be ousted. I won't say the song sucks, but I just don't like it. I'm sure you would have wanted Taking My Ball to replace We Made You, but I just really think that he should have said fuck the both of those tracks and make the first single Elevator or something like that

But I do think if Relapse had THAT tracklist, it would have been better received by critics and fans. It probably would be my second favorite Em album, with that tracklist. The tracklist, for the most part, is a lot better though, except for the exclusion of Beautiful, that I don't entirely agree with. But everything else is great

Replace "Taking My Ball" with "Beautiful", "Drop The Bomb On Em" for "Insane", and we have one very dope album. Beautiful & Insane have got to be on there, most people class them 2 as 2 of the best.

I disagree. "Beautiful" is a great track but it doesn't fit the album in any way shape or form. You can tell it was made in a different time period. It feels like having a TES track on MMLP, it's out of place.

Also don't get the obsession with "Insane". It's a nice little escapist track with a cool flow but not an essential track for the album IMO. I think "Taking My Ball" is better and a perfect 1st single.

"Drop the Bomb on 'EM" mixtape? Lmao wow. I don't think so. It has some superb punchlines and the flow is fantastic.

As for the inclusion of CWYF over "Beautiful"... Well, I was actually thinking, I probably wouldn't have CWYF either actually but if I had to have one of the two on the actual album it'd be CWYF. I think it'd be a great sobering note to the end and it's like... on "My Darling" he's grabbling with ego / addiction, then BAM the Relapse begins then it ends with him warning you about your ambitions.

Just feels more complete. "Beautiful" just sticks out. Feels like Tarrantino stuck the Pulp Fiction burger scene right near the end of Inglorious Basterds.
