because you returned the one you got for xmas

you have a whole rap forum, you didn't know what flow was? you voted on flow in battles, talked about it on multiple occasions but didn't know what it was?

because i vote in text battles, its differnt flow in text is how easily i read it and how smooth it sounded. the only audio i voted on was ame vs chambers which i now know what it is

Andre 3000 :worship: Great choice.

But Tupac for concepts? Can you explain why you put that please? (I'm not tryna knock your opinion or anything, was just wondering if you could elaborate) :y:

you may not agree, but I view concepts as being able to rap about different issues and topics. Tupac has songs on:

Gangsta songs
Love songs for girls (sex and relationships)
love songs for women (keep ya head up) (inspirational songs) (dear mamma to his mother) (baby don't cry aka keep ya head up pt2)
songs that talk about poverty, injustices in America.

tons of different issues.
I'm guessing you would choose Nas, he would be my 2nd choice by the way.

What do you think?

edit: he also has a lot more song topics from me just looking through my tupac collection just now. Friends, revenge, angry songs, sad songs.... goes on and on. Do you have a different view on concepts?

I guess thats were I think differently. Concepts to me are songs like 'Guily Consience' or 'I Gave You Power'. I really don't know how to explain what they are.

It's like they have an idea behind them that it isnt the same as a normal song - and when I say normal I dont mean quality-wise. That doesn't sound how I want it to sound but I don't know how else to explain it.

What you said to me, would be versatility.

I totally understand what you are saying. Like the rumored track with Em and T.I. with thier 4 alter egos. Or Stan. Yea I guess I did describe versatility, but I think about the two categories like this:
When the rapper sits down in the studio and decides to write he picks a topic. And I would call that a concept. So Guilty Conscience and Stan are more advanced in a way (I really don't know how to get my point across in words right now.)

I separate just rapping about a topic and rapping a concept song by if the rapper sticks to the main idea and doesn't jump all over the place. Not saying your right or wrong (I think you are right) but I have a broader opinion of concept songs. I'm less selective.

Pac's versatility was incredible but I really don't think anyone could touch Nas's concepts

To me Masta Ace is the only rapper who gets close, in terms of concepts. Disposbale Arts is the best concept album I've ever heard, but I'd still rate Nas higher.

That's fair enough. I see exactly where your coming from.

God, I'm really struggling to put my thoughts into words today... :(

I agree with what you said about concepts more that what I said about them lol. So my list would be:

Flow: Andre 3000
Delivery: Eminem
Punches: Ludacris
Multis: Kool G Rap
Versatility: Tupac
Work Ethic: Papoose
Wordplay: MF DOOM
Hooks: Chamillionaire
Battle Raps: Canibus/Big Daddy Kane
Concepts: ??? All rappers have some concept songs but I guess I don't know who I would choose. Nas great choice, your choice of Masta Ace is also very good. I'm going to listen to Disposeable Arts some more today. I'm new to Masta Ace and really only listened to Take A Look Around and Slaughtahouse extensively.

Would all of you choose your concepts choice based on quantity of concept songs or quality? By quality I mean most out of this world concepts.

I think I'd go on quality more than quantity, becuase a poor concept track sounds horrible and cheesey. Like the little intro to 'I Gave You Power' makes it sound as if it's gunna be crap but then he starts rapping and it's just crazy.

Obviously, quality has to play a part as well; if they only had one concept song and it's AMAZING they ain't getting my vote for best concept artist.. :n:
