I know you think the words are clever and all, and I agree, but do you actually like how it sounds?

Yes I do. I love how Relapse sounds.

I wouldn't say I liked the album if I didn't like how it sounded. First and foremost that's the objective.

It's not just the words, he isn't actually stretching his vocabulary much on Relapse, it's absolutely about the flows and the writing. And the ironic, dark humour.

What's missing for me is the old classic Em 'wit'. I don't care what he writes about as long as it's energetic, crafted, great to listen to and witty.

He's been missing that wit a while now and the closest he got to reviving it to me was on things like "Same Song & Dance" with...

"Alley-Oop, I'll slam dunk it in your mouth till you puke / And just as soon as you pass out in ya alphabet soup, I'm bout to, make a new outfit outta you"

That's just such beautiful twisted wit. Pass out in ya alphabet soup lmao... I mean, just turning a horrid situation into a playful, imaginative mindfest of words and imagery. It's superb.

It's a very fun album to me. Sounds great and was a relief to just hear non-stop rhyming again. Absolute focus on technical rhymes and I actually love serial killer songs. Because you can't really get more visual than such an extreme situation as that, it's limitless.

But now what I want is social commentary and wit. Wit, wit wit.

But yes I love how it sounds. Every flow is dizzying and like I said, it's the way he's flowing the words that's so amazing. Making it sound more complex than he is, finding new heights with the language. Those who say he doesn't influence or push limits are insane. Whether you like the accent or the content or whatever, he really did find new depths with the language again.

Underappreciated. Especially when you have like Wayne not doing 10% of it in any aspect and he gets praised galore.

I really wanna hear some more themes such as those portrayed in mosh. Curious to know what Em's views of REAL LIFE situations are, aside from the fictitious bullshit that he has always put out, (although most of it is fucking witty).

I know he is a smart guy, and he has it in him to write about more meaningful stuff, I guess we'll never know why he doesn't....

I disagree that the first three are light years ahead. You just think that because they have more subject matters on them and the subject matters ring more true to life so you relate more.

So what if he just takes the role of a murderer on Relapse. His technique is flawless and I don't agree that he sounds awkward at all, he sounds the opposite. He's totally glued to the beat.

Encore was a slight dip yes but that's because that's when he started getting bored with rap and also addicted to sleeping pills. He said himself that Encore was 'good' but not 'great' and certainly not his best.

I'm glad Relapse sounds nothing like the first three. That's why Eminem remains exciting 12 years after being signed. Because every album he totally changes his style, so it's exciting to see how he'll sound next, how he'll sound original, how he's gonna do it. That's what he does that many other greats don't.

I don't agree he's going downhill just because he's not spitting catchy punchlines in a hardcore Detroit accent. He's totally back in love with the art of rhyming and wordplay and now his mind is clear too, he's made it clear he's reaching for mountains on Relapse 2. He's on a very big upward climb, not a downward spiral. He did that with Encore. It's up up up now and he's better than ever.

I'm maybe one of few people that just listened to all 5 albums for the first time last year. And in my eyes, the first 3 are really light-years ahead (yes imo it's THAT clear). Hence I'm not stuck in the past or whatever reason cuz as I stated I listened to all the albums at the same time.

EminemBase wrote:No you only think the content is 'light-years' ahead because you don't like his new accent(s) and flows.

You couldn't of been listening to The Slim Shady LP or The Marshall Mathers LP very well as they were mostly fictional acts of violence and horrorcore too. That's what he was born on. So I don't know why people are acting he's gone in a totally new direction.

Also, his poetic phrasing and lyricism is on a new level now. If you don't like the new voices fine but stop confusing accents, flows and voices with CONTENT. He talked about his personal shit properly from 02-06. How many more spins do you seriously expect him to put on the trappings of fame, guilt of hailie and his mother. It was already sounding old by 04.

I'm glad he's back to crazy shit. He was beginning to sound tired. Now he sounds energized again.

I agree very much with this. I think TES & TMMLP were his best, but I would put Relapse and Slim Shady LP on the same level. I love all of eminem pretty much tho, I can't think of a track besides Fack I don't really like, Fack is kind of a song that is intresting and funny 2 listen 2 once - but once it looses it's shock value in my opinion, it's not really a favorite overplay record at all.

i believe relapse 2 will be epic. aslong as he stays away from the accent, and the random songs like taking my ball. he said it will be songs you can listen to over and over forever. not many of them on relapse and he admitted that himself. so im v.excited for relapse 2.

I usually don't post on this forum, but seriously. :shakehead: Just listen to ems flow on some of his newer tracks like buffalo bill, stay wide awake or drop the bomb on em. His rhymes are in my opinion the most twisted and sick ever written and he takes rhyming to a whole new level. Sure, they are not as personal or emotional as they were in his early days, but his flow is WAY better on Relapse. Relapse 2 could go down as his best album. :worship:
