Nas' Best Songs + Verses

Postby Satire » Feb 25th, '10, 05:03

(Such a better thread).
Just to start it off, my personal favorite
NY State of Mind
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKjj4hk0pV4
Nas wrote:Rappers I monkey flip em with the funky rhythm I be kickin
Musician, inflictin composition
of pain I'm like Scarface sniffin cocaine
Holdin a M-16, see with the pen I'm extreme, now
Bulletholes left in my peepholes
I'm suited up in street clothes
Hand me a nine and I'll defeat foes
Y'all know my steelo with or without the airplay
I keep some E&J, sittin bent up in the stairway
Or either on the corner bettin Grants with the celo champs
Laughin at baseheads, tryin to sell some broken amps
G-Packs get off quick, forever niggaz talk shit
Remeniscing about the last time the Task Force flipped
Niggaz be runnin through the block shootin
Time to start the revolution, catch a body head for Houston
Once they caught us off guard, the Mac-10 was in the grass and
I ran like a cheetah with thoughts of an assassin
Pick the Mac up, told brothers, Back up, the Mac spit
Lead was hittin niggaz one ran, I made him backflip
Heard a few chicks scream my arm shook, couldn't look
Gave another squeeze heard it click yo, my shit is stuck
Try to cock it, it wouldn't shoot now I'm in danger
Finally pulled it back and saw three bullets caught up in the chamber
So now I'm jetting to the building lobby
and it was filled with children probably couldn't see as high as I be
(So whatchu sayin?) It's like the game ain't the same
Got younger niggaz pullin the triggers bringing fame to they name
and claim some corners, crews without guns are goners
In broad daylight, stickup kids, they run up on us
Fo'-fives and gauges, Macs in fact
Same niggaz'll catch a back to back, snatchin yo' cracks in black
There was a snitch on the block gettin niggaz knocked
So hold your stash until the coke price drop
I know this crackhead, who said she gotta smoke nice rock
And if it's good she'll bring ya customers in measuring pots, but yo
You gotta slide on a vacation
Inside information keeps large niggaz erasin and they wives basin
It drops deep as it does in my breath
I never sleep, cause sleep is the cousin of death
Beyond the walls of intelligence, life is defined
I think of crime when I'm in a New York state of mind

& Before anyone starts, ignore the fucking poll. It'll make sense eventually.

Um...

- N.Y State of Mind
- Halftime
- Dr. Knockboot
- Ether
- The Cross
- Hip-Hop is Dead
- Sly Fox
- Louis Farrakhan

That's a handful of my favourite Nas songs. My favourite line would probably be from N.Y State of Mind, which is "I never sleep, cuz sleep is the cousin of death".

On the Louis Farrakhan, first of all - LF is a lowly, racist, delusional, wackjob piece of shit who I would love to fucking head butt but in respect to Nas' lyricism on the song... It's some of my favourite from him period.

Very poetic... "hush me up and stuff me in the pockets of history". Good stuff.

Eh.. I was about to diss the poll.. :( until I saw your comment and I was like fuck, dude's spoilt the fun again.

Btw. how is Louis Farrakhan a racist song? Wtf? -___-' Stop with this fucking paranoia, the message is more like.. universal than racist; he basically says that being a revolutionist can get you killed any time and it's up to you if and how people gonna remember you.. How is that racist, I have no idea.

Oh my goodness. Will you try reading what I put CLEARLY before responding like this.

I said LOUIS FARRAKHAN as in the HUMAN BEING, the MAN is a lowly racist piece of shit not the fucking song. The song is named after the man. That's why I said Lous Farrakhan is a lowly, racist, deluded piece of shit who I'd love to head butt. Do you think I wanna head butt a song?

Then proceeded to praise Nas' lyricism.

Favorite tracks would be
The World is Yours ( One of favorite tracks ever )
Deja Vu
One Mic
Take it In Blood
Memory Lane

My favorite verse is basically any verse on Illmatic :worship:
Same sword they knight you they gon' good night you with
Sh.., Thats' only half if they like you
That ain't even the half what they might do
Don't believe me, ask Michael
See Martin, see Malcolm
You see Biggie, see Pac, see success and its outcome
See Jesus, see Judas; see Caesar, see Brutus
See success is like suicide
Suicide, it's a suicide
If you succeed, prepare to be crucified

Couldn't agree more with that. Every verse if just perfection - in a time when the majority of raps were very simplistic as well.

Probably my favourite rapper ever cus bar Hip Hop Is Dead every album has been great.

Wouldn't agree with that. I think Hip-Hop is Dead is one of his good albums.

Most people usually agree that I Am and Nastradamus are his duds.

I would consider Nastradamus his weakest. But, there's always a few good songs on every album. But since that album he's been on-point.

Nah I dont like Hip Hop Is Dead. Forgot about Nastradamus, that would probably be his worst. I like I AmI think it's a great album, despite it not being raved about, he has some great storytelling tracks on there and his delivery is fantastic.
