Lets say a store buys 150 copies of an album. There are 10 left on the shelves, someone comes up and buys 3...that will trigger the store to buy another 150...which boosts the record sales not by 3...but by 150.

Record sales comes from distributer purchases, not really customer purchases.

Its how many records were sold to target and walmart and amazon and shit.

just because we are Eminem fans or whatever, we shouldn't be responsible to buy more than 1 copy of his album ... i think by buying more than 1, it's just throwing money out and not really affecting the sales..and is pretty lame too

no offense but thats just wrong...when the cd gets scanned at the register during a customer purchase, thats when it count for Soundscan

@ slimsox - Actually. Your wrong. Look at the whole before I self destruct issue. Album went gold without actually selling 500,000 copies. Thats because stores bought 500,000 , even though real customer sales were at 300 or 400 thousand. Ill try and find the article.

^ actually he's not wrong, RIAA & Soundscan work in different way, RIAA count how many copies were 'shipped' to store like you said and give gold, platinum.. certificate base on that, while Soundscan actually count the copies were 'sold'.

Nope. It took much self-control, but I did it. The greater anticipation makes the album better IMO.
