Why did the slim shady show

Postby Wreck » Mar 5th, '10, 20:33

end?

It was kind of a stupid, corny concept of a show, but it was funny. It only lasted for 2 seasons, consisting of 8 episodes in all.

I was just wondering.

One of the weirdest shows ever.

I think it had something though. It didn't quite have the writing to hold as a true solid comedy but I think they could of made it so.

Most shows start out shakey. I think if they'd got the right writing talent on board as well as Em contributing humour himself, they could of made it South Park meets Ren and Stimpy. It was refreshingly vulgar but it had an etchy, cool, underground feel to it.

It could of been something IMO.

i dont think there was enough of a market.
sure eminem fans might find it entertaining.. but the average person might think its completetly retarded..

i didnt find it that great.. not bad but not good enough to watch it on a regular basis

I think that's what makes great art though.

Good art shouldn't try to appeal to everybody. If it so happens to then so be it, that doesn't automatically make it bad art but it's unlikely to be very unique if that is the case.

All of the best art starts out cast at a very narrow-section, a very select way of thinking and these select few usually force it to become popular because they are so influential.

Eminem only became huge quick, big, because - Well obviously because he was white and had Dre but he has the ability to make whatever he does insanely catchy and appealing, no matter the subject matter. But... The things he talked about when he came out were by no means appealing.

He appealed only to himself. As all great artists do. That's all you should do. If you're a comedian, try and make yourself laugh. If you succeed in making yourself laugh, there will be enough people out there like you who will have the same sense of humour and it works that way.

South Park, The Office, The Simpsons - These are all big now but look at the humour. None of them are broad or watered down. They're all extremely clever, specific and direct. They pull no punches, hold no bars and answer to nobody. It's only because... The small select few who first latch onto these things love them SO much, they tell anybody with a similar outlook about them and they spread from group to group.

But their longevity then becomes outstanding simply because it takes a while for all these little 'trendy' groups, the select few who 'get it' to naturally grow the idea / shows. But once established... There's no stopping them. They seem popular and obvious now as does Eminem but none of them started out that way.

Not that I'm putting The Slim Shady Show in the same realm but just illustrating the point that it's GOOD that only his fans would get it. That's exactly how it should be. If it were trying to be appeal to a wider audience that'd be shameful. It's what makes Eminem, like Gervais and Tarrantino a true artist. They appeal to nobody but themselves yet the way they craft their work is so astounding the rest of society can't help but take note, it's too out of the ordinary.

It had shitty animation, and boring design. It was ok to watch, some funny moments, but that was it.
It was forgettable.
