If we're talking in recent music I think that Raekwon is the best alive for now. 2009 was definitely his year.

Based off of the music I've heard from the last couple of years I've got to say Royce (because "Slaughterhouse" and "Street Hop" was dope as fuck) or Nas (because "Untiteled" was a great album with great consept and content, and the 3 songs I've heard from "Distant Relatives" are epic).
