Em has done it, Nas has done it, and so has Jay-Z. So do you like it when a rapper goes political...it kind of depends with me. When Em went really political on Most it was the last straw. I already hated Encore so...When Jay did it with "Minority Report" I thought it was retarded...Katrina victims can suck it if they were trapped because they had plenty of time and warning a big ass hurrican was coming. And Nas I won't get into but what do you guys think

I have no problem with couple of songs about politics. Unless you go too far... Like this rapper in Bosnia. Frenkie. Pretty dope rapper, but then he kinda dedicated his whole rap career to political problems. He even made an entire album about it. So he lost lot of his fans.
What Im tryin to say is that, a rapper/artist can get involved into politics, but not TOO much. He might lose his credibility as a musician. Cuz I think that the artists should try to have an impact on the individual only, which is totally opposite of what politicians do. They tryin to get through the masses.

I wouldn't choose to listen to a political track over anything else but if it makes sense and they know what they are talking about they I have no problem - as long as it makes music that it nice to listen to as well of course.

How do you know that they don't know what they're talking about? Because, I assume, you're not in politics.. So, how do know if what they say bears any meaning to what certain politicians are saying or not?

Every political song has a counter arguement thats never heard by that rappers fanbase so its pointless

It's not pointless, if the rapper feels like he has to convey his thoughts about a certain thing, then he can do that. Music is all about self expression.. And if you, as an artist, want to express yourself about certain political issues, then you should.

And about the counter arguements, well, the fanbase of X politician doesn't usually know the counter arguements to X's political agenda. It's all the same.

And for the record, hiphop fans dont have a problem with a rapper going political because hiphop is liberal. If a rapper were to start talkin politics supporting a republican it would be a different story.

And I dont agree with your last statement. First of all, a politician doesnt have a fanbase, they have supporters just based off of what party they are in. Republicans were not fans of george bush, they were fans of a republican president. And, people who know politics to well enough to claim to be part of a certain party, know what the other party stands for well enough, since they chose one party over the other.

Basically, if you claim to be democrat, its because you dont like what the republicans stand for, meaning, you would know their counter arguement since with politics, its all the same.

But at the end of the day it was still a single person that was put in charge, and if people have an opinion on that person then I don't see why they shouldn't be allowed to express it in the form they know best.

Eminem said that the sole reason behind Mosh was that he disliked George Bush and the decisions that were being made, he made a song about it to encourage people to not vote for a man he didn't believe was fit to run a country, end of story.

I always thought the whole point of making music was about expressing things you sometimes might have a hard time saying, or to express someone you feel strongly about and trying to get it to as many people as you can.

Being political is the same as giving your opinion about certain issues, wheter it being because you have the opportunity to change it or just stating what's on your mind.

Aristotle phrased humanity quite interesting, "Man is by nature a political animal".

About having a fanbase or not, believe me, the most populair candidate wins in an election. It's proven that a high percentage of the voters do not even know what the agendas are, they just vote on the one person they feel like voting for.
