Also, when you get the next part of the game, you'll be in an ark. What you need to do here is "grind" as we ff fans like to call it.
Just fight as many enemies as you can, progress a little further then go back and fight enemies over and over again to get CP points and get your crystarium up. Also, you want to use the weapons that were originally given to you, dont use the ones you pick up along the way...Because you need to upgrade your weapons on a regular basis. And its easier to upgrade the weapons you were originally given.
Each weapon should be at like level 10-15 right now. If they arent, you gotta grind till you get enough money to buy the stuff to upgrade them.
Things like sturdy bones and organic materials will up your EXP counter..Like you attach 36 sturdy bones to your weapon you get X3 EXP points, so something that would have given you 100 exp toward an upgrade would give you 300exp. You get your X3 exp then you attach inorganic things like bomb fragments or crankshafts. Crackshafts usually give you the most exp, and, you can buy those things in the store.
But gil is harder to come by in this game, so you'll get things like incentive chips that you can sell for 500-2500 in gil per chip.

@ your last post - You gotta get to timing it, he'll charge it for like 30 seconds or something..com/rav/rav him untill right before he's gunna blast it then switch to com/med/med
You need two meds to med up quick and throw a potion. Also, before the fight, equip anything that will give you more hp or elemental resistance.
The trick is having a paradigm with 2 meds to med up quick. I used light and snow, both have decent magic. And the other trick is to com/rav/rav him as much as possible to get his stagger bar up then just pound him.
If your having that many issues you probably just need to level up your characters more before the fight. If you have any saves previous to where your at, go back and fight some enemies for an hour or so to level up. if you cant, then you just have to get past this point then the next area you'll be able to level up a lot...your gunna need it cuz the next guy you face is a lot faster and stronger than him...its maybe an hour after you beat this guy here.
