Wow yeah, never noticed that before.
Well, the album by Red Hot Chilli Peppers was released in June 1999. The Marshall Mathers LP was released in May 2000 but obviously the track was probably made like mid-late 99' so...
Pretty close time ranges there. I can't imagine either of them like sneaking a hear of each others' track and stealing or even sampling it. Neither would of been known I can't imagine... To each other given how close they are time-wise.
So could just be a coincidence. As similar as they sound, does happen. Happened with the melody from... Coldplay's "Viva La Vida" track. Some band sued them claiming they stole the melody but then they agreed it was a coincidence after they found out Coldplay had worked it out like long before they could of heard them play it.
Is rare but does happen. They're almost identical though. But, simple chords so...
