That's none of our business.

Unlikely. Kon Artis scoffed at the suggestion of a response, implied it wasn't on Em's radar and unimportant. Not worthy of action.

Although... Re-creating a petty dispute which he started about a brief affair nearly a decade ago with a deluded pop star, then coming back at the reply with a vicious diss track... Instantly, apparently is. Sure...

Em ripped Bis to bits on "Can-I-Bitch" anyway, none of Bis' disses hit home on any level. He really seemed to struggle with insulting Em effectively despite being, obviously, a superb battle rapper. Em re-wrote a classic, told a descriptive, real-time story, personally jabbed (with detail) at, ironically span AND flowed entertainingly a multi-dimensional diss track. Canibus threw cotton at Em's glass house.

"Air Strike" was better but again, Bis didn't really get much done there. DZK dissed Em better but was still pretty MEH despite nice flows. The reason they struggle to make an impact is because Em has done exactly what Jimmy did in 8 Mile. He's insulted himself better than anybody could insult him, prematurely. Calling him a drug addict, a bum, whatever - It's all ineffective because he's totally self-deprecating and always has been anyway. He's called himself far worse in far better ways.

I really would like to see Em come back hard and not jokingly and slaughter them all. But I doubt he will.

I'm still laughing my ass off, Canibus had all kinds of hype to make it big but didn't make it. Can someone explain what happened exactly?

Certainly...

He built a supreme ball of hype with non-stop, hard-hitting punchlines and witty lyricism leading people to believe he was the next great rapper.

Then unfortunately, Wylcef tried to mould him into something he wasn't and provided him with a bunch of shitty, bland beats for his debut. There are still a few decent tracks on it but ultimately, it turned out as a mixed up, confused, uneven album.

His second album was much better and pretty much top to bottom hardcore rhyming. But he still couldn't figure out how to create catchy music with broad genre appeal. He's an aquired taste. As is Em. But Em writes insanely catchy hooks and creates melodic rhythms with his flows.

A lot of people blamed the production still but it really wasn't that bad. It was much more for the reasons I just mentioned, in my opinion.

So, then he went independent, released some duds, didn't have the distribution or marketing etc. and ultimately got nowhere. Then he re-emerged, re-energized and put his all into it. And got better beats. And got a lot more recognition. Despite still now blowing up.

At this point... It's too late to blow up so to speak. He's missed the boat. He'll continue to release very specific, detailed material which his fans will adore as will some side-fans and portion of the hip-hop public. But he's too well known whilst still being unknown. Once you get to that point... Hard to escape it unless you release a masterpiece so utterly mind blowing that it cannot be ignored.

I don't think Canibus will ever truly do that though. He's an amazing lyricist and rhymer but he's too indulged in his own spectrum of ideas and interests to ever create art that resonates on a large scale. I think we'll see about 3 more albums from him then he'll put the mic down.
