No you shouldn't aim at anyone. Your own fans or not.

A real artist should make art to please himself and hope that likeminded people like it too. If you're making art AIMED at people, any people, you're doing something wrong IMO.

There's nothing wrong with having 5 #1 hits in a row but there's something wrong with aiming at it. It shouldn't be the driving force. Quality of art should be.

I think you misunderstood me. By saying he should aim for something more than just the fans I meant that he should try something new (challenge himself).

Yeah he definitely should. That was my whole point to begin with lmao.

I mean he did challenge himself anyway, people take him for granted but what he did with flows and rhyming on Relapse / Refill was astounding and would of probably been twice as jaw-droppin on R2.

But that said, he should of gone with his gut and re-invented himself like he first though. Needs to start remembering HE is the artist and fuck what everyone thinks.

It's not journalists saying this it's Eminem.

I definitely think Dre holds him back. Because Dre is a great producer and old-skool rapper but Em is a true artist, that can move with the times and constantly expand and progress. Having someone like that around just hampers him IMO.

And wasn't he right? People really want Shady. Writing lyrics as shady doesn't necesserarily mean it has to be to the same shit once again and to me it really wasn't. He stepped up his game as a story-teller while his rhymes and flows were better than on the previous albums. Well, the topics were pretty much the same but according to himself he made Relapse to prove to himself that he could still do it. In that way it was definitely a success.

I'm not too sure Eminem can move with the times (I have a great feeling that Recovery will prove me wrong). Yesterday proved that he still has to mention his mom, dad and daughters some reason all the time, although it was only a few lines.

No he wasn't right.

Not for me anyway. I don't want Shady. I've heard Shady. I want NEW Eminem.

What makes Eminem exciting is the fact he changes it up every album. He went from battle rap, pure hard-hitting hip-hop to social commentary to rock-fueled rap, screaming at the White House. I mean he's covered such immense ground.

So that's why, him going back to saying offensive shit for the sake of pissing people off is such a gigantic step backwards. Even though it's intentional, it's a cheap way out of not moving forward. I love Relapse though and wouldn't want to be without it but he needs to do something totally new now.

As for Em moving with the times, he already has, multiple times so it's not about being sure - He HAS and continues too lmao. He re-invents the wheel almost everytime he puts out a new album and has created so many styles it's insane.

As for him mentioning his mom, childhood and daughters - He HAD to lol. The song was about their experiences as children, getting to this point and saying 'what if' this never happened. So what's he meant to do, create a new biography. But he definitely needs to totally stop it on his albums now.

Yeah, for all the times Em's emphasized how he doesn't give a shit, he very much does give a shit what his fans think constantly.

He needs to just do what HE thinks is best.

it's totally understandable that he felt the needs to ask people around what they want from him. He just got out of rehab, out of public, out of being "Eminem" for years. He even said he didn't listene to music outside while making Relapse. It's obvious that he's clueless about what's going on, feeling insecure, doesn't have enough confidence in himself and in need of some advices. You guys think he could just got out of rehab and got himself together all of sudden and stated making decisions like it's all clear? :zipped: I doubt Em himself knew what he wanted to do that time, that's why he asked for guidance, he's just human as us, things like that are normal.
Relapse was like a rhyming lesson leading his way back. But he's back now though, he sounds more & more confident with each verse :flutter:
