So the lyrics are important but it's not all!!!
And even in the "non-lyricistic" songs, Em's rhymes better than the others commercial rappers nowadayz

No it didn't. The Eminem Show had just as many multis (and they tended to be much better crafted)...for some reason, they seem to have sailed over people's heads, though.

And rhyming better than other commercial rappers these days isn't saying much. There are thousands of underground rappers who can do that...thousands of kids in their parents' basement who can do that. This is Eminem...I want him to amaze me again.

In your opinion.

But I wouldn't even be listening to rap music if it weren't for the lyrics.

I take content more than lyrics usually. A song like Stan doesn't have any crazy rhymes, but the story and content blows most people away.

Uh, no.

This "make words rhyme that normally don't" concept is one of the most idiotic statements to ever come out of the rap community.

EVERY rapper rhymes words that don't really rhyme. Pretty much every other type of musician does too...it's just rare that they rhyme more than one word, so nobody notices anything.

But in rap, it's as common as the word "irony" in an EminemBase post.

When you have to start changing pronunciation to a ridiculous degree, you're not doing a very good job of writing the lyrics. In his "prime," Eminem VERY rarely even bothered to actually change the pronunciation in his songs...even in areas where it wouldn't have been a reach to do so.

From Brain Damage:

"chocolate milk/dropped and spilt" (still said "chalk-late" in the track, as opposed to "chock-late" as he was thinking when he put it on paper)

From Say Goodbye to Hollywood:

tylenol-I-would/(good)bye-to-Hollywood (still said "Holl" as "Howl," as opposed to "Hall" as he had obviously intended on paper)

The accent isn't what made his lyrics impressive on Relapse. If he were as on point lyrically as Deja Vu, I would have no complaints.

MikeNufc wrote: Rhyming 'in' with 'in'? I mean they're good verses but rhyme-wise, for his standards, I do think there slightly off. His delivery is back to his best, though.

He rhymes "caving in", "raise it then" and "pages in". So yeah he says "in" twice, but thats not the whole rhyme. its a three part three syllable rhyme, its not like he just said "in" without anything else rhyming. For comparison, look at 3 a.m. "3 am in the mornin, put my key in the door and, bodies layin all over the floor and..." he rhymes and twice, and rhymes door with floor which is not original at all, but no one complains. People are looking for flaws now.

But, his lyrics lately have not really had a point, with the exception of Airplanes. ha the other too were just like about how badass he was type thing. Idk. haha

It seems everyone else is too busy orgasming over the fact that he's not using an accent anymore and tongue-bathing him for subpar verses. He's all over the place...so much so that I still have a strong hunch he may have relapsed.

If Recovery is lyrically similar to what we've heard from him the past several months, it's going to be awful. Well, awful for those of us who know why Eminem was ever good in the first place.

i agree

people just get hard over anything he releases, especially if it's not with the ACCENT!!! but he can have so much depth to his lyrics, and i am just not feelin it so far

airplanes 2 , DTW, Forever ... good, not great

EDIT: we are being too critical. It is good to hear him back, but he just will never be the same form that he was during MMLP , Eminem Show. Hayley whatever ruins airplanes for me...all i do is listen to em's verse. It is a little bit all over the place, and he says "shit" too many damn times lol. I have also grown tired of hearing the way he says Hailie and Laney. But he could be retired, so what the hell.

Well I don't really know what you mean because Refill had some of his best lyricism out of that period. I mean "Buffalo Bill"... Insane.

Then the "Forever" and "Drop the Verse" verses were both great. Not as sublime as people make out but decent all the same.

As for the "Airplanes 2" verse, Em said him and B.o.B worked together "a couple of months ago" in like May 2009. And B.o.B mentioned it around then too. And I'm pretty sure that's the only sesh they had and it seemed like a big one. B.o.B said they made a lot of music.

So I'm betting that verse is from late 2008 to early 2009 anyway. Which makes sense given the CAB-Ish slightly off-kilter (in places) flow and lots of swearing / emotion. You could tell that's when he was just starting to really experiment with double-time flows etc. again.

So there's really not much indication on how Recovery will sound and I'm certainly not gonna guess it from the little evidence we have. As always, I'm sure, he'll surprise us.

I remember the first time I dismembered a family member
December I think it was, I was having drinks with my cuz
And I wrapped him, In Christmas lights
Pushed him into the stinkin tub, Cut him up into pieces
Then just when I went to drink his Blood
I thought I outta drink this bath water, That outta be fun
That's when my days of serial murder man slaughter begun"

"You better lick the fuckin plate you ain't wastin it
Put your face in it before I throw you in the basement again
And I ain't givin in you're gonna just sit there in
One fuckin place spin again til next thanksgivin'
And if you still ain't finished then I'll use the same shit again
And when I make spinach dip it'll be placed into shit"

"Well I can be as gentle and as smooth as a gentleman
Give me my ventolin inhaler and 2 Xenadrine
And I'll invite Sarah Palin out to dinner then
Nail her, 'Baby say hello to my little friend'
Brit f’rget K-Fed let’s cut off the middle man
Forget him or your gonna end up in the hospital again
And this time it won’t be for the Ritalin binge
Forget them other men, girl pay them little attention"

"Drop kick the bitch before her second trimester
Perform the home abortion with Dexter
Then I guess I'll dig her fetus out with a wire hanger then digest her"

All of Stay Wide Awake

"I’m fixated on asphyxiating and breakin’ this little chick’s
Neck like a pixie stick
The sick Satan worshippin’, bitches get horse-whippins,
I’m in the back, through the back door, slip in
Through the crack leavin’ the corpse drippin’
The mortician of love, sent from above"

"I’d had enough of the chatter, climb up to the window, look at her
then climb in and slowly shatter her brain matter and batter her
with the bat, a matter of fact that will splatter her
But before I do that, I’ll have a chat to flatter her
Give her two compliments, back-to-back, like Tabatha
I’m your secret admirer, I’m back to ravish ya
So strong is your fight, but your no match for Dracula
Prolonging her plight, as I go back to stabbin’ her
Dismember her limbs, simple as that, cadaver her"

"Dre I'm down here under the ground pick me up
Broken tibias, fibias, yeah fix me up
Sixty sluts, all of them dying from asphyxia
After they sip piss through a Christopher Reeves sippy cup
Dixie cups, toxins, boxes of Oxy pads
Enough oxycontin to send a f*ckin ox to rehab"

How many people you know who can name every serial killer who ever existed in a row?/
Put 'em in chronological order beginning with Jack the Ripper/
Name the time and place from the body the bag the zipper/
Location of the woods where the body was dragged and then dumped/
The trunk that they were stuffed in the model the make the plate/
And which model which lake they found her and how they attacked the victim/
Say which murder weapon was used to do what in which one?/

"You dealin’ with a few true villains
Whose stand inside of the booth truth spillin’
And spit true feelings, until our tooth fillings come flying up out of our mouths
Now rewind it"

"Your days are numbered like, pages in, my book of rhymes, got em cookem boy
this crooked mind of mine got em all shook and scared to look in my eyes,
I stole that f-ckin clock, i took the time, and i, came up from behind
and pretty much snuck up and butt f-cked this game up
better be careful when you bring my name up f-ck this fame
that aint what, i came to claim, but the game aint gonna be the same
on the day that i leave it
But I swear one way or another i’ma make these f-ckin haters believe"

"Lets pretend Marshall Mathers never picked up a pen
lets pretend things would have been no diff-er-ent
pretend he procrastinated, had no motivation
pretend he just made excuses that were so paper thin, they could blow way with the wind
marshall you’re never gonna make it makes no sense to play the game
there ain’t no way that you’ll win
pretend he just stayed outside all day and played with his friends
pretend he even had a friend to say was his friend
and it wasn’t time to move and schools weren't changing again
he wasn’t socially awkward and just strange as a kid
he had a father and his mother wasn’t crazy as sh-t"

I think it's safe to say his lyrics are still on point.

I'd much rather listen to an album where I can really feel the emotion of the artist, and where I really give a shit about what they're talkin' about. I mean I like Relapse its fucking dope, but there was pretty much NO emotion (except for a few songs) and most of what he was rhyming about I could care less about. It's probably his most lyrical album, but is it his best album? Not to me

how so? multis are still there if thats what you mean

anyone can rhyme about nothing and use complexity outta this world...but it's much harder to fit words together when you actually stick to a topic
rhyming should be the least of people's worries now...after all that unrhymed garbage he put out between Encore and Relapse (aside from a couple decent verse)
