I don't think it's awkward at all. It's the opposite, it's tailored.

"Beautiful" is awkward. He's dragging words out, he's sluggish, he's forcing emotional elements out of himself. A lot of people just cannot get the fact that Relapse is totally in character. And also cannot get the fact that it's not supposed to be vintage Slim Shady. Slim Shady has now just become a metaphor for evil and he's just using that label as it's fitting and recognized.

But he's basically just a demented serial killer. But the level of craftsmanship to it, the twisted humour, the poetic flair. It's totally engrossing and I'd listen to "Stay Wide Awake" over "Beautiful" any day.

Best summation of Relapse I've ever seen is this line:
Relapse's real resonance comes from the fragile, harrowing genius that lies behind that painted-on grin.

That's the perfect attribute to emphasize. Painted on grin, absolutely. Relapse is art, not reality and shouldn't be confused for it. A lot of people (since day one, with Em) cannot grasp the fact he's creating art out of music and it's escapism. Fact that the flows are robotic is essential to its appeal, he's a twisted narrator weaving himself in and out of situations with descriptive glee. Relapse is a monster of an album. Not a classic but very very good.

I don't care, i still found it boring. :y:

Only tracks i really liked on Relapse, and i mean liked as in i got into them (cause as he says technically it's superb) were the likes of My Mom, Insane, Deja Vu and Elevator. I'd respect it more if he had done the entire album in character, but Deja Vu and Beautiful really kind of fucked up the narrative he had going, since he weaves Hailie's name into it in Deja Vu and therefore you're supposed to assume he goes out in the night to kill people and wanks to Hannah Montana while looking after his child? Nah it just didn't properly do it for me.

Yes that's what I mean. His personal injections into this are the missteps of this album not the serial killing.

Had he ditched the Paul skit and kept the entire album run through in absolute character it could of been a classic. CAB fucks it up also.

"Beautiful" is a good track but should not of been on the album. Total misfit.

I just listened to Relapse again and yes I agree that it's classic. I listened to each song over 100 times. I'm gonna miss the relapse era but I'm also glad there's no relapse 2.

Looking back a few years from now, I don't think it will leave a bad mark on his legacy, it will just be that weird album that he spazed on. Also I actually started to like the accent a lot, and I think it makes the album even more demented. I think people don't like the accent not because it sounds weird, but because it's weird to do.

Relapse is :tounge2: :o   :shifty:   :facepalm all in one.

Looking back at it, and re-listening to all the songs a few times, I really feel that Relapse was a classic. Shit is dope. It tells a story, its an art when you get past the accent and actually listen to the tracks. Its enjoyable once you do this and makes you appreciate the genious of Em. The album has stand-out tracks like 3 a.m, Stay Wide Awake, Beautiful, Deja vu/Underground (to a lesser extent). The rest of the tracks are just good, but still dope. Im actually glad there was a Relapse, its good stuff and I enjoy the tracks from that era. Now with Recovery hes going into a completely different direction, which is what I want him to do, but at the same time, Im glad Relapse was released too because its so different. I think if every album Em put out was emotional/angry, it would get tiring. Relapse is a good album to re-listen to if you just want to be Wowed by the crazy lyrics and sick beats.

Relapse was awesome, there is no denying it.

Relapse >>>>Encore for sure,

BUT we should all know that he can and will do better with Recovery. The fact that he said Relapse was "ehhh", even if it wasn't all that bad just tells me that he is back with a crazy ass vengeance, and that is when he's at his best.

Not Afraid is not another Lose Yourself, it may not be as memorable as Without Me....it is the perfect 1st single for Em to release at this stage in his career though. People have to remember that Eminem is 37 years old too...may be past his "prime" when it comes to his voice, but the lyrics and the flow are sick as ever IMO

His voice has a lot more power and authority than it used to.

i have to disagree with that...unless you're just referring to the Encore, Relapse days.

Listen to Marshall Mathers, or Criminal ... that was the best he will ever sound to me.

I really liked relapse. I mean, it doesnt touch the eminem show or slim shady lp. But I think its better than most of mmlp and encore for sure. and re-up.

My list goes, SSLP, Eminem Show, Relapse, then MMLP. And the only reason Eminem show rates higher on my list then relapse is the content. The lyrics. But Ill bump relapse in the car before the eminem show anyday.

People give relapse too much shit, it was good for what it was, it was great too, considering he promised us a second album to follow it right away, so it was known to be a warm up album from the get.

I think relapse will be looked at as much better a couple years down the road when people are going back and bumpin some old em songs and same song and dance, or deja vu comes on. Or hello. Hello is dope.

Maybe I just played them out. But, I cant really bump any of it. I find myself bumpin SSLP more than any of his albums. Im more into songs that I can relate to, that I could see myself spittin if I was a rapper, relapse and sslp fit me more
