Would you like more storytelling on Recovery?

Postby Chilli » May 2nd, '10, 05:17

I've always been surprised by how little storytelling Em does considering how good he is at it. He hasn't had any really dope storytelling tracks (that I can think of) since MMLP and they were some of his most entertaining OR powerful songs (Stan, Kim, As the World Turns, Brain Damage, etc.). I'm hoping that's what Em decides to experiment with more than anything else on Recovery.

What do you guys think?

I hope this album can somehow compare to MMLP, my favorite Eminem album.

That album had it all.

Of course. Some of his best songs in my opinion have told stories (Stan, Murder Murder).

If I want a story I'll read a book.

My fault is probably the funniest story he told...cuz it goes all 3 verses on the same subject.

And that one line always makes me laugh " John, wheres dave at before I bash you!/ Hes in the bathroom i think he's takin a crap dude"

@GGGG - You've been saying a lot of stupid shit lately. Are you stressed out or something?

My Mom, Insane, serial killing stuff, it's all story telling.

I hope he can make a classic like Stan or something again.

Relapse was different. All the serial killer stuff was more a bunch of creative ways to fuck people's shit up rather than a story I was fully entranced by. His old story telling was always completely focussed on the story without going off on little random tangents and had me hanging off every word.

I'm not saying Relapse wasn't good for what it was, but it was harder to immerse yourself in the music. I dunno, might just be me.

Haha, yeah. The voice he does for John is hilarious. Picturing what he looked like provided hours of entertainment for me.

I feel you but Deja Vu was on its own level in terms of storytelling compared to the other tracks on Relapse.

Yeah, I agree with that :y:

You seem to be harvesting a lot of negative thoughts lately. Negativity makes me very uncomfortable, and so does arguing.

I dunno, Ive been venting lately because Ive been so hyped for this album and I;ve been kinda on the fence with this fast rappin shit he's been doin lately and then this not afraid track has ruined my hopes for the album.

That, and this site going down every 3 hours pisses me off.

I feel your pain. Despicable created stupidly high expectations for Not Afraid, then I heard that beat and my heart just broke.

Most fans like the new material. Why not feel happy that a lot of other people are happy? It's not all about me me me or you you you, but sometimes being happy for other people is all you need to be satisfied in a life situation.

I don't think this is one of those situations...

I couldn't help being disappointed. Music is a personal thing. I'm not gonna listen to a song and think "I hate this shit... but at least some complete strangers are happy." It's impossible to enjoy vicariously like that.
