The freestyle was sublime. First time in a long time that we've heard REAL wit from Em again and not shitty shock substitute. Actual metaphors, actual irony.

As for "Not Afraid", I like it too. I'd prefer more of the former and less of the latter but the lyricism is still on the point and the chorus is great.

the fact that it's made to try to shock people (well, i'd say that's about half of the reason, the other half is it just amuses Eminem) shouldn't make it shitty. you yourself have compared Eminem to Tarantino.

are you saying Tarantino's graphic violence (often gratuitous) is "shitty shock"? it's funny. as is Stay Wide Awake. that jovial accent, coupled with the graphic descriptions, said in a totally unconscientious & remorseless tone, with the masterful rhyming.. shit's hilarious

No no. My point is up until now, for a long time, he's been using shock tactics INSTEAD of any real wit or irony. He was a genius because of the mixture, not one by itself.

He became very lazy. Peeing on people and shoving stuff up people's asses IS shitty shock substitute when he's capable of what he is. And don't try and connect what I said to other people's comparisons of Relapse material.

Did I once mention Relapse? Or "Stay Wide Awake"? No, Relapse isn't that. Relapse has many levels of lyricism and I love the album. But this new freestyle is even better.

Amadeo wrote:I assumed the "long time" included the Relapse album. And I assumed you were talking about Relapse, because, well, let's face it, there's not much wit. The whole humor behind the album is fairly one-note. It's fairly basic black comedy but I found a lot of parts funny.

There actually is quite a bit of wit in Relapse but yes I meant in long time as in... Since about 2002. As in actual witty metaphors. But Relapse was witty in its style, in its character. Relapse wasn't one-note, it had many shades.

Amadeo wrote:If you're talking about the Tarantino comparison, that is your comparison. You have said Eminem is the Tarantino of rap. That comparison may not have been drawn because both men employ shock tactics in their art, though.

No I wasn't talking about the comparison. I stick by the comparison and no I did not draw it for those reasons and never said I did. Tarrantino does not employ shock tactics. He just plays out scenarios realistically, he's true to his characters and sometimes they act in vulgar ways. But people always walk away thinking they've seen more than he's actually showed them.

I must say I'm very pleased with his Weezy-esque punchlines
Haven't heard Eminem even attempt punchlines in about 10 years

They were absolute terrible. He's obviously took inspiration from him which is a shame.

On topic, loved Dispicable freestyle, disliked Not Afraid.
