I don't consider myself "too hard" at all. Most music I listen to evokes some sort of emotional reaction from me and that's the reason I like it. I enjoy the verses of Not Afraid, but the corny cliches in the chorus and bridge lack substance and do nothing for me.

^ but the chorus is meant to be generic like that, so more people can relate to it instead of something too personal.

There are ways to make something relatable and not cliche. Lose Yourself and Imagine are two off the top of my head.

they are totally 2 different type of rap songs. Lose Yourself is meant to be hard, this not. I agree that the lyric in the chorus could be better but I don't see how can it bother some people THAT much.

EDIT: also, I don't think it's fair to compare this to Lose Yourself, which is obviously better. You can't always expecting a Lose Yourself type of quality when Em releases a new song.

Em's just being honest, and he's not afraid to. That's why it comes off as corny, because it shows a new side of him that knows no limits in sentiment.

^ I know, people just always expect Em comes along with something "hard", "cool" that forgot he's a human and actually a very shy person in real life.

I don't even think Em has the ability to express his feelings in a normal, cliché manner.
I still insist he has a mild social disorder.

this

IMO he says "that LAST relapse cd" because in his mind at the time he was writing for a second Relapse.. that is in my opinion

Or he was just using a long chain of assonance starting at this point in the verse until the end of it using that 'a' sound.. But who knows?
It's pointless to try to analyze because no one will ever know for sure unless he tells us. That's the beauty of music, everyone wants to know, but no one ever will fully understand what an artist is REALLY saying..

I don't care about "hardness" or "coolness". That accusation is ridiculously unfounded.

Eminem has proven he can make quality honest/emotional/inspirational songs without resorting to cheesiness. I like those songs. Plus, he used to tease pop singers for writing lyrics very similar to the ones in the chorus and bridge of NA, so I think it's a tad hypocritical.

He teased them when he was either on drugs or too young to know better.
He's a grown man, and he's perfectly aware of what he's doing.
He used to not give a fuck as a pessimist.
Now he doesn't give a fuck as an optimist.

serious? he's been doing the sing-s-long kind of chorus since TES. How can people not appreciate a quality song like this when they just got that gimmicky garbage WMY last year I never understand.

Maturity may explain why he stopped teasing them openly. It doesn't explain accepting, respecting, liking then incorporating corny lyrics into his music.

But whatever, I accept he may have changed. I just don't like the change.

That logic makes no sense. I liked the choruses in The Eminem Show so I have to like the chorus of this? I've got nothing against him singing, but I do have something against him singing melodies I deem to be annoying and lyrics I deem to be cheesy.

I appreciate people may like this song and I can see why they would. But I don't. That is all.

For the record, I didn't like We Made You either.
