No, Relapse was definitely better than "eh". To the casual fan, it probably was "eh" but a lot of people don't appreciate the fact that Relapse is a concept album about Em relapsing back into Slim Shady, only more psycho and killing people. If you notice, by the end of the album he gradually gets normal and loses the accent, by the end of Must Be The Ganja this happens. Relapse has actually had just as much plays as The Eminem Show from me, I find Relapse very enjoyable and entertaining. I still bump a lot of tracks from it, and I probably still will even when Recovery comes out, unless Recovery completely blows everything he's done out of the water
There were not many rap albums last year that were better, in my opinion. Bitch about the accent all you want, I stopped noticing it after about the 3rd listen through, but his flows and lyrics have never been better, even We Made You had decent enough lyrics, the only truly shitty song on Relapse was Crack A Bottle. I hope Recovery retains the great flow and lyrics, but leans towards The Eminem Show in terms of overall sound and mood, which is my favorite Em album and probably favorite album ever. Despicable was a good example of this, the flow and wordplay/lyrics were incredible, and no accent, so I hope Recovery sounds more like that than Not Afraid. Not Afraid is a good song, but I find Despicable a lot more enjoyable to listen to, has a lot more going on
Came back to annihilate, the game's in dire straights, as I await
Word on Satan, as I drop, fall to my knees before this Quija board and I pray
Now I lay me down to sleep
I do this shit in my sleep, I’m sleepin' now, imagine if I awake
Props to randomgirl for the sig.
