That's not arrogant.
Reasonable Doubt is generally the only stone-cold considered classic by Jay-Z in the opinion of a lot of rap fans.
The Black Album also considered by SOME at a push but not more than two (to most).
So stop letting the fact you
do feel him get in the way of the
actual truth.
I try and take you seriously, but i know that your love of Em will stop you ever enjoying rap itself. I couldn't listen to a genre thinking "this guy just blows away anything and everyone!".. It'd be boring. But that's the point, Em isn't perfect, he isn't the undisputed number 1. Whilst he can do emotion and influenced alot of people, there's people like Pac, who made a similar cultural impact, or Big Pun who was better with the multies, or Big L who was better with the punchlines, or Nas who was better with the flow..
I'm on an Eminem site. I love Eminem's music. I get more excited about it than most things..
But the guy has a decent first album (do not even call it a classic), a classic 2nd album, and a disputable classic in ES.. Then has 2 average albums for different reasons, and a dry spot of quite a few years. Through this time he goes from COMC to Ass Like That.
That's not perfect. That's not beyond argument or competition. And you can construct poetry about Marshall to describe how he connects with his audience or puts his heart in to his work.. But if the guy was so unbelievable, then why didn't he put it out all the time, hitting the mark everytime..
Because he's human.
He is a genius with flaws, and skills wise is in the top 10, influence wise the top 5, lyrics wise, possibly the GOAT.
That is all.
